LONG BLOG

Cblogs recaps of 07/03 and Striderisms

   0

How funny is this? I'm recapping the day before the 4th of July. Who's going to recap on the 4th? Our resident Dutch recapper, Shade. Do the Dutch know anything about America's Independence Day? They probably know we had a movie starring Will Smith and it's how we gained our independence from alien invaders who wanted to enslave/destroy/parlay with us. That's probably enough actually.

Jinx is also probably expecting me to finish and upload the Fapcast soon. I told him it'd be done soon and to expect Valve time to rear its ugly head. Yeah, it'll be done when it's done. We never rushed Duke Nukem did we?

My style of Animal Crossing so far has been rather relaxed compared to other mayors. Alphadeus or Mayor Pas, has a very aggressive system of fundraising for both his town and his residence. My I hear other mayors like Mayor Levi, or Zompieplatypus, put a bit more focus in their town before diverting funds into his home. Me on the other hand, I've put more effort into my town rather than my home, but that doesn't mean I'm proactive in fundraising for either. Anyone playing New Leaf knows that the best way to earn money is to grind on the tropical island. But I don't want to grind in Animal Crossing. That isn't the point to me. I do like going to the island with friends though.

Animal Crossing to me is the daily change and greeting of the day. I play it everyday to see what's new in town: the store is remodeling, there's a new shirt I want in the Able Sisters, a new fossil I haven't discovered, a new project to be finished. Even when I theoretically catalog all the items there are and I don't need to see anymore new items and my stores are fully upgraded, there's still the neighbors I want to catch up with and the other mayors I want to visit to see what their towns are up to. And like true Animal Crossing, it doesn't have to end there. There's always a new goal to set for yourself to make the game appealing.

I recently decided to pave roads in my town via patterns. In previous games, it seemed like a hassle to design an entire pattern just to walk over, let alone devoting a space to my pattern collection to it. But I can use the 3DS camera to scan QR codes of interesting patterns. I already have an N7 shirt pattern thanks to the Internet and QR codes.

I didn't even need to scan a code for my path really. I borrowed a pavement pattern off the Internet through the Dream Suite. Generous towns can share the patterns they used through Wendell and I was very fond of one town's pavement style. Older Crossing fans will remember Wendell as the starving artists type of walrus who gave away rare wallpapers in previous games. Now, he browses the Dream Suite for interesting food because he loves how he never gets truly hungry while dreaming. Of course, you can set your dream to not share patterns, in the case of one certain dream town.

I decided to go an extra mile and plant extra flower gardens and pavement, since my town was showing signs of extra grass wear. I currently have pavement down between the train station to Retail, to my house, with a t-bone intersection to my goodwill fence (like the dump in OG AC) leading too my cafe.

So I got a request in from my favorite townie, Hopper, to build a lighthouse. I haven't paid off my mortgage either. Looks like a lighthouse is being built.

* - Shaxam shares his eloquent love of Deus Ex. Human Revolution was so good, he went back to the OG titles

* - Double Fine is in some financial shish-kabish and Viredae sheds the lights on it all

* - Inanimate carbon rod, you are my hero and so is Simpsons Hit and Run

* - Save sick kids and watch Pokemon. WHAT MORE DO YOU SHITHEADS WANT?

* - Casey Baker will respect my Animal Crossing thread in the forums and start a cry for help here on the Cblogs for neighboring mayors on New Leaf. GIVE HIM YOUR PITY.

Villains that did nothing wrong

Villains in all media, not just video games, can end up being a dime a dozen. Far too often, a villain's motives boil down to "I am a bad, and so I do bad things. Fear me." While this format has worked for countless stories, at this point in my life (the ripe old age of 20) I’ve become jaded and grumpy, finding myself rolling my eyes when I see yet another antagonist wreaking havoc with no background or reasoning presented as to why they’re being such a butthole.

What’s far more interesting to me is when a villain’s motives or actions come across as justified, perhaps leaving you rooting for them to defeat the protagonist [insert Elder God Tier villain meme here].

My favorite example of this would be Meruem from the Chimera Ant arc of Hunter x Hunter. While he doesn’t necessarily fit the exact mold I laid out above, he’s easily one of the most dynamic and curious villains I’ve ever come across. For the sake of not spoiling what is perhaps one of the most exciting, action-packed, and tear-inducing arcs in anime history, I won’t delve into the details of what makes Meruem so great. Instead I encourage anyone who hasn’t seen Hunter x Hunter to set aside some time and plow through the series. Really, it’s that good.

But hey, that’s just how I feel. I’m sure there are folks out there who prefer their villains to be simple. If I ever met one of these theoretical people I might have a panic attack, but I’ll deal with that should the time come. I’m sure after some deep breaths we would get along. Maybe we could even snuggle, should my husband allow such an event to transpire.

All said and done, we arrive at the topic of this month’s Bloggers Wanted: Villains that did nothing wrong. Due to communication errors, this entry in the hallowed halls of Bloggers Wanted is a tad late. Regardless, all you have to do is head over to the Community Blog section of the site, and whip up a Cblog about a villain who you feel was secretly the good guy all along.
