LONG BLOG

Cblogs of 31/08/2013 and Manchild Super Fun Time

   0

I love those recap days where you wake up and remember it's YOUR TIME to take care of business.

Jesus Christ.

It has been...a long couple of weeks. Found a new place to live where fewer people are stabbed on a regular basis, and will be moving this month. New baby is a brewin', almost ready to come out of the oven. Trying desperately to learn enough to take my A+ certification exam, so I have been spending all my time on computers but, for once, not playing video games. Life is just steaming ahead.

I feel that's how it always works for me. When a big event like PAX pops up and everyone is talking about it, video games are the last thing on my mind. When the blogs are dead like hell because everyone is busy in school or whatever, I spend my free time throwing up random Twitter bullshit about new games. I am completely out of sync with this whole crazy community sometimes. Frankly, because I'm so bogged down with technical knowledge (In between A+ I take "breaks" by studying C, Linux+, and Networking+) work, and everything else, it's just impossible to even care about games right now. And there is some awesome stuff coming out I really, really wanted a month ago.

Like that. So much that. Say what you will about Hatsune Miku but, damn, is the Project Diva series ever fun to play.

I just lost my train of thought right now because my daughter started choking on a piece of toast. I think I've lost the will to talk about video games.

Shame. I was just getting started, too.

* - Strider writes a primer to spies vs. mercs. I have never heard of it, so I'm going to assume it's a direct sequel to Spy vs. Spy on the NES. Although there are no mention of buckets falling on heads.

* - A great review for a very strange new PSP title; a visual novel with romance elements played from the "other side",,,as a girl! You know, those things what got vaginas in them! Cool to see the console getting new, strange games.

* - A gaming tale of terror from a damaged former Gamestop manager. I worked at EBgames which is the same thing. Fucking shit. That company sucks and if you buy from, support, or work for Gamestop, you are a part of the problem. It makes me sad to see men in their thirties willing to make 8 bucks an hour because video games. Good for you for getting out, mate.

A - In defense of gigolos. Personally, I love gigolos. And by love I mean envy. Because gross sex with strangers. Honestly, Killer is Dead looks pretty, but I rarely ever have fun with Suda 51 games.

A - A repost from IGN blogs. TroyFullbuster, stahp. That ain't cool. But the article itself, about bad feels gamers can have, isn't too bad.

R - A well written review of Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest. No wait, that's not it...Lords of Shadow 2: Simon's Quest. Well, it's good anyways, read it.

V - Quite the surprise, but Jonathan Holmes has a new video series!! I really wasn't expecting that. Check out Jonathan Holmes ne...oh. Oh, no. That's not..let me start over. A new video series called the Agamemnon Show is up and it's all about video games. By J Agamemmnon. I wonder what the J stands for? (JONATHAN HOLMES)

T - Oh, Nintendo. You crazy dogs,

T - More stuff about Killer 7. Killer is Dead. Boob game.

C - A very poorly edited blog on the 2DS and why it is brilliant marketing. Or not. Personally, I think the console looks badass because it's clunky and weird and so am I.

Current "Bloggers Wanted" assignment
Crowdfunded

It feels like it's been a decade since we've seen the rise of the crowdfunded game. I'm always surprised when I remind myself that crowdfunding has been a thing long before the first crowdfunded video game, but nowadays a crowdfunded game seems like a dime a dozen.

Of course such a phrase is an incredible disservice to some of the great games that have come out thanks to websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Games like FTL, Shovel Knight, and even Undertale are around thanks to crowdfunding; thanks to people gathering around and literally putting their money where their mouth is, a game they want gets funded and inevitably the greater landscape of gaming benefits from it. Most of the time the landscape gets to benefit from it anyways.

Don't worry though, this month's bloggers wanted prompt isn't an exploratory thesis on the effects of crowdfunding on video game development. We just want you to talk about your favorite games, as long as they were crowdfunded. This topic can be simultaneously broad and narrow, because you can talk about whatever game you want, however you want, as long as it was crowdfunded.
For me, FTL is the original crowdfunded game, and it was great. It was somehow minimalist and incredibly detailed at the same time, and it was all done because a man wanted to do it, but needed the money, and thousands of other people wanted to see where his idea would go. Shovel Knight to me feels like this natural evolution of the classic 8-bit gaming of yore without also throwing myself back to a time when gaming was honestly comparatively archaic. And everyone's talked to death about Undertale, so we all know where I'd go with that.

To participate in this month's bloggers wanted, just start a blog! Oh, and title it "Crowdfunded: [your blog title here]." I bet this month is going to be pretty diverse, since it's basically writing about your favorite crowdfunded game. So I hope to hear about some good games revisited or amazing games no one has heard about.

Remember: Persona 5 was not crowdfunded, but excuse me as I plow through it.
