LONG BLOG

Cblogs of 11-27-08 + Qalamarisms

   0
Greetings, Dtoid.

Happy day-after-Thanksgiving USA, happy Friday, rest of the world. If you're not freezing your yarbles off standing outside a Best Buy or dodging the meaty fists of a Wal-Mart patron, I hope you'll take a few minutes to check out the work your fellow D-toiders put into their Cblogs yesterday. This will be my inaugural attempt at doing the recap, so be gentle. I'm the newest member on the team, and still recovering from my "Initiation" in "Conrad's Office." I hope everyone here in the U.S. enjoyed themselves yesterday and haven't lapsed into a tryptophan-induced food coma. This is no time for sleep, there are games to be played!

We had some very good articles today, I guess some folks had free time on their hands. There were a couple of first-time posters who came right out of the gate with well written, thought-provoking articles. On the other hand, there was a share of fail too, I suppose that's bound to happen when the kids are out of school. Without further ado, on to the recaps.

*-Carpwrist calls out the Behemoth. I don't necessarily agree with everything here, but it's well written and got some discussion going. Welcome to Destructoid.

*-Every game should have Pepper Spray. Except maybe Starfox.

*-I've gotta show this to my girlfriend.

*-It would make my mouth cry to eat this cake. It's that awesome.

S-RandomBullseye X-plores one of his favorite Genesis games.

S-Releases in the EU this week.

P-Brilliam craves your input for "A fistful of quarters." It's only dirty if you think about it.

A-Contra 4 is great. Next time though, please break up the wall o' text with some pictures.

A-Nice post about food and gaming. Gaming and food. Chocolate and Peanut Butter.

A-SurplusGamer wrote about how his sister caused him to re-examine his preconceptions about games. Worth a read.

A-MrPeenie takes constructive criticism well. I think he'll fit in just fine around here.

S-RonBurgandy2010 redefines game music blogs.

A-Nilcam tells you how to not look like a dick in the new Street Fighter.

I didn't see anything about contests today.

C-Unstoppable Juggernaught needs a hug. Hope things look up for you soon.

C-Gwyddia reflects on what Thanksgiving means to her. I've gotta go make a phone call.

I-RoboRene2525 is considering some Animal Crossing recidivism. Welcome to Destructoid.

B- That's another cool looking cake. I bet Topher would like a slice.

N-RE5 special edition looks expensive.

N-Steam deal on a Diablo clone. Could be fun.

R-SSF2THDR impressions. The acronym is longer than some game's full titles.

R-Shin Oni seems to like SSF2THDR.

N-In addition to the game, SSF2THDR has an album up at OCRemix. Show them some love.

V-Something about Dynasty Warriors I don't really understand.

R-Brits love Sonic. This is a truism.

R-CTZ wants nudes of Scotty G. Also something about Mirror's Edge.

R-TewDee's review of Left 4 Dead.

V-"Hey hey, I'm 25 and I make movies that I use to spam websites I like!" I should probably fail this but I'm feeling lenient.

V-This would have been much better with a N.E.S. Also... who gives a CAR as a Christmas present?

D-I didn't read this because I want to play BonerQuest free of spoilers.

T-NYCEXC3 wants Animal Crossing on the 360. AC mixed with LIVE could be interesting.

I might be doing culture wrong, but I didn't see anything I'd classify in that category today.

?-Altered Beets wants to teach you how to juggle.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

F-C'mon guys, don't feed the goddamn troll. I admit some of those pictures did make me laugh though.

F-Me typing this took longer than your blog.

F-Like you said, it's a forum thing. Just put it on your profile.

F-I love when people know they're failing but do it anyway.

Hey you! Yes, you! Would you like to contribute to Destructoid in a meaningful manner? Can you cut and paste links into your browser? Do you has? Cblog recaps are looking for a permanent recapper for Thursdays. If you're interested, let Conrad Zimmerman know.

Time to make a final decision on whether to go to sleep in or fight the crowds. Have a good one, everybody.

Current "Bloggers Wanted" assignment
Changes

It feels like it's been a decade since we've seen the rise of the crowdfunded game. I'm always surprised when I remind myself that crowdfunding has been a thing long before the first crowdfunded video game, but nowadays a crowdfunded game seems like a dime a dozen.

Of course such a phrase is an incredible disservice to some of the great games that have come out thanks to websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Games like FTL, Shovel Knight, and even Undertale are around thanks to crowdfunding; thanks to people gathering around and literally putting their money where their mouth is, a game they want gets funded and inevitably the greater landscape of gaming benefits from it. Most of the time the landscape gets to benefit from it anyways.

Don't worry though, this month's bloggers wanted prompt isn't an exploratory thesis on the effects of crowdfunding on video game development. We just want you to talk about your favorite games, as long as they were crowdfunded. This topic can be simultaneously broad and narrow, because you can talk about whatever game you want, however you want, as long as it was crowdfunded.
For me, FTL is the original crowdfunded game, and it was great. It was somehow minimalist and incredibly detailed at the same time, and it was all done because a man wanted to do it, but needed the money, and thousands of other people wanted to see where his idea would go. Shovel Knight to me feels like this natural evolution of the classic 8-bit gaming of yore without also throwing myself back to a time when gaming was honestly comparatively archaic. And everyone's talked to death about Undertale, so we all know where I'd go with that.

To participate in this month's bloggers wanted, just start a blog! Oh, and title it "Crowdfunded: [your blog title here]." I bet this month is going to be pretty diverse, since it's basically writing about your favorite crowdfunded game. So I hope to hear about some good games revisited or amazing games no one has heard about.

Remember: Persona 5 was not crowdfunded, but excuse me as I plow through it.
