LONG BLOG

Cblogs of 07/12/13 and bbainisms

Hello friends! Today (as in Saturday, not Friday) marks the one-year anniversary for my boyfriend and I! Not sure what we have planned for the day, but there will probably be lots of Japanese food (from our favorite restaurant) and maybe some co-op Spelunky action. I can't wait :3

In other news, I'm back to obsessively playing Persona 4 Arena. My current goal is to conquer the Score Attack mode with any character (but probably Teddie, because he's the only one I'm really good with). Score Attack is freaking crazy. The AI is apparently set to a level above the highest difficulty setting, so they basically just go ballistic at you as you fight to stay alive and take them down. There are 13 rounds, and so far I've only made it to round 4, which, ironically, is Teddie. I can't manage to beat the one character whose moveset I'm most familiar with! Although he is granted abilities that I don't have, such as using a triple Circus Bear attack, Teddie's most powerful, and arguably cheapest, attack. The first time I tried Score Attack mode, though, I figured I'd never even get past the first round (Yosuke), but I've since managed to do that, so I have (a slim) hope that I can eventually beat it. Just gotta keep practicing!

I'm also starting to pick up on some minor details about the game that I often miss during the hectic battles, which are making me love the game even more. I'm starting to hear more of the hilarious lines of dialogue uttered by the characters while fighting, like Teddie saying, "I'm spinning more than usual!" when he's about to be All-Out Attacked or Chie shouting, "Everyday's great at your Junes!" while auto-comboing Yosuke. I also never realized how funny Elizabeth is. Her attacks are so rage-inducing that I usually miss what she's saying.

It would be cool if Atlus released some more DLC for this game (and not just color swaps or additional navigators). There are still several Persona 3 characters they could add. I'd definitely enjoy playing as Koromaru or Ken!  Or maybe they could expand on the story mode to reveal the mastermind behind the tournament. Or they could just work on making Persona 5. That'd be cool too.

No topsauce today... :(

Current "Bloggers Wanted" assignment
Changes

It feels like it's been a decade since we've seen the rise of the crowdfunded game. I'm always surprised when I remind myself that crowdfunding has been a thing long before the first crowdfunded video game, but nowadays a crowdfunded game seems like a dime a dozen.

Of course such a phrase is an incredible disservice to some of the great games that have come out thanks to websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Games like FTL, Shovel Knight, and even Undertale are around thanks to crowdfunding; thanks to people gathering around and literally putting their money where their mouth is, a game they want gets funded and inevitably the greater landscape of gaming benefits from it. Most of the time the landscape gets to benefit from it anyways.

Don't worry though, this month's bloggers wanted prompt isn't an exploratory thesis on the effects of crowdfunding on video game development. We just want you to talk about your favorite games, as long as they were crowdfunded. This topic can be simultaneously broad and narrow, because you can talk about whatever game you want, however you want, as long as it was crowdfunded.
For me, FTL is the original crowdfunded game, and it was great. It was somehow minimalist and incredibly detailed at the same time, and it was all done because a man wanted to do it, but needed the money, and thousands of other people wanted to see where his idea would go. Shovel Knight to me feels like this natural evolution of the classic 8-bit gaming of yore without also throwing myself back to a time when gaming was honestly comparatively archaic. And everyone's talked to death about Undertale, so we all know where I'd go with that.

To participate in this month's bloggers wanted, just start a blog! Oh, and title it "Crowdfunded: [your blog title here]." I bet this month is going to be pretty diverse, since it's basically writing about your favorite crowdfunded game. So I hope to hear about some good games revisited or amazing games no one has heard about.

Remember: Persona 5 was not crowdfunded, but excuse me as I plow through it.
