WHOA NELLY! I got myself an iPhone!

It feels like I'm finally realizing my potential as a tech savvy, social media acolyte. And with the data plan to continue using it outside of my local wifi network, I'm continually surprised at just how much I've been missing out.

I mean, I can finally check up on my social media and email while outside, even while at work! Anything interesting happens or passes by, it won't escape my steely gaze! Plus the extendability of the apps is mind boggling even though most people have probably been doing since 2006.

Take for example the Fire Emblem Awakening release fiasco. I was just out shopping when my local GameStop didn't stock it. Would I need to go home and try calling around using my laptop? Nope! Just get on my iPhone, search for other stores, and I could even click on the provided number and call them seamlessly without missing a beat. I ended up finding plenty of copies at my local Fry's Electronics. I've also been gassing it becoming that Instagram guy. Someone who loves sharing almost everything he finds interesting to snap. I do have more restraint and don't bombard my Instagram feed endlessly luckily though. I've especially taken to snapping interesting pictures behind the scenes at work. While also remaining vigilant on what may cross the line for stuff that may need to stay secretive. Disney likes to keep the process behind the curtain just that: behind the curtain.

Speaking of Fire Emblem Awakening, I've gotten far enough to realize that it's a pretty rad game.

I've never played a Fire Emblem game. I simply know Marth and Roy from Smash Bros. Melee. So when I heard Awakening was coming out for the 3DS, I knew I should get it, if at least to round out my 3DS library. What I wasn't expecting was for their to be a manic shortage. It was probably a shipping bungle but I was pretty worried about procuring a copy within a reasonable time. I mean, most GameStops said they'd be getting theirs in on the 8th. The 8th? That's like, forever in gaming news. Luckily, not only did I find a copy, I found it outside of GameStop so I didn't have to give them any money. And I'm seeing that I'm gelling perfectly with it because I still have a history of Advance Wars to go on.

Basically, I have to consider every unit precious. While I'd crank out Infantry as diversions in Advance Wars, I'd need to carefully consider formation and support so that not one unit would hit the dreaded zero HP drop. Even though it's an SRPG, there seem to be no revival mechanics and playing on Casual sounds like blasphemy. Even if I'd accept Casual, I'd like to see how the story would play out if I took a wrong turn somewhere. Granted, I may still restart if I feel cheated out of a unit but I'll try my best to stay the course.

Go get'em Donnel!

So far, my favorite units besides the insanely overleveled Frederick is Kellem. I mean, how is a knight wearing stupidly oversized armor overlooked? The guy could be a ninja the size of a Buick for all we care. But when it comes down to brass tacks, that armor makes Kellem hard as nuts to crack, which makes him the perfect wall to protect some of my imporant support units like clerics and mages.

Speaking of support units, I've been milking Virion for all he's worth as the lone archer so far. I'm still wrapping my head around his strike zone since mage have a similar strike zone but can fight back but so far it seems that Virion is certainly a powerful support sniper to put behind a bulkier unit like Frederick or Kellem. But I'm downright surprised at how paper thin Miribel's defenses are. I know mages are supposed to be weak but goddamn, she cannot take a hit. I'm lucky she's survived what we've weathered so far but it's a good thing she can sidestep counterattacks by striking from a diagnol position.

I'm barely scratching the surface with advance classes and additional skills to level up and I'm already enjoying it at a basic level. I'm just glad I finally unlocked the wireless streetpass features so I can start seeing what teams the guests of California Adventure are bringing into my lands.

I finally unlocked the Geth Trooper Soldier too and man is he fun. Just slap a decent shield shredding weapon on him and watch him go to town with the correctly specced Flamer. I've killed everything from Cerberus Troopers to armored Scions in seconds flat thanks to this thing. And I specced his passive wrong too. I can't wait to see how effective he'll be if I max out Fortification for full DR and slap an Acolyte on him. Shorting out shields and burninating fools left and right. I gotta remember to make his color yellow and make him a bonafide Geth Pyro unit.

Current "Bloggers Wanted" assignment
Changes

It feels like it's been a decade since we've seen the rise of the crowdfunded game. I'm always surprised when I remind myself that crowdfunding has been a thing long before the first crowdfunded video game, but nowadays a crowdfunded game seems like a dime a dozen.

Of course such a phrase is an incredible disservice to some of the great games that have come out thanks to websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Games like FTL, Shovel Knight, and even Undertale are around thanks to crowdfunding; thanks to people gathering around and literally putting their money where their mouth is, a game they want gets funded and inevitably the greater landscape of gaming benefits from it. Most of the time the landscape gets to benefit from it anyways.

Don't worry though, this month's bloggers wanted prompt isn't an exploratory thesis on the effects of crowdfunding on video game development. We just want you to talk about your favorite games, as long as they were crowdfunded. This topic can be simultaneously broad and narrow, because you can talk about whatever game you want, however you want, as long as it was crowdfunded.
For me, FTL is the original crowdfunded game, and it was great. It was somehow minimalist and incredibly detailed at the same time, and it was all done because a man wanted to do it, but needed the money, and thousands of other people wanted to see where his idea would go. Shovel Knight to me feels like this natural evolution of the classic 8-bit gaming of yore without also throwing myself back to a time when gaming was honestly comparatively archaic. And everyone's talked to death about Undertale, so we all know where I'd go with that.

To participate in this month's bloggers wanted, just start a blog! Oh, and title it "Crowdfunded: [your blog title here]." I bet this month is going to be pretty diverse, since it's basically writing about your favorite crowdfunded game. So I hope to hear about some good games revisited or amazing games no one has heard about.

Remember: Persona 5 was not crowdfunded, but excuse me as I plow through it.
