LONG BLOG

Today, Destructoid asked what my most anticipated game of 2013 was, and I could only pick one? Looking at the list, I started to get really excited about the coming year, and also really sad for my bank account (it'll be OK, buddy)! We've got Ni no Kuni (!), The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth (!!), Dark Souls II (!!!), Guacamelee, Monaco, SpyParty, Super TIME Force, Tomb Raider, The Last Guardian (???), Rayman Legends (too bad I'm not getting a Wii U), and more... and there are no doubt even more that aren't even on the list (Mew-Genics?). I mean, damn. The games haven't even been released yet and I'm already overwhelmed!

Bring it on, 2013!

(PS: I voted for Dark Souls II... :D)

Oh, and before I forget, I wrote a blog for my Top 10 games of 2012 earlier today. Check it out if you want!

* - Isshak Ferdjani interviewed the cast and director of Us and the Game Industry, a documentary about indie developers. It's a very interesting interview with some surprising responses!

* - Strong female leads in video games... the conversation rages on! If we don't see some more female leads anytime soon, I will be very surprised and disappointed.

* - The video games of 2012 gave Cutie Honey so many feels (eight of them, to be exact)! Also, he's giving away some Steam games!

A - TheKodu thinks Sony is destined to fail if they implement the patent they filed regarding pre-owned games.

A - ccesarano makes some hefty predictions about Valve and Sony for 2013.

A - Everyday Legend has a crazy idea for rebooting the Mega Man franchise which just might work!

A - SuperCrow's Top 5 games of 2012. Some fine choices here!

E - It looks like the DtoidUK DecNARP was a big ol' happy sausage fest!

S - Nathsies hasn't been around Dtoid in awhile because he's been focusing on his studies, and recently received some wonderful news!

F - Friday Night Fights on the 360 + Jon Tron at MAGFest!

F - Friday Night Fights on the PS3 + Dear god... nightmare fuel!

T - Megakrang spent his holidays on a lush tropical island, relaxing by the bonfire and whacking people upside the head with a giant dildo bat.

P - Hmm... I wonder why games like ZHP: Unlosing Ranger vs. Darkdeath Evilman or The God and Fate Revolution Paradox don't get much attention? Maybe their god-awful names have something to do with it...

T - What if Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII turns out to be a good game? What will we do then?!

D - These guys are introducing Destructoid to a new game they're working on called Edge of Space.

$ - January 4th UK releases and bargains!

C - Copypasta of a necro-review for a Sega Genesis game... also no pics. At least he has an adorable blog header!

C - levelseeker is lost in Final Fantasy XIII-2 and apparently GameFAQs can't help... also, goddamn, that game's plot sounds awful.

C - A very short thought about violence and video games.

F - I guess this is spam? Either that or someone is very lost.

F - Who let this crazy person in? We don't need any paranoid conspiracy theorists here, thanks.

F - In case you didn't notice, the site you are posting on is Destructoid... not 3DS Buzz.

Current "Bloggers Wanted" assignment
Changes

It feels like it's been a decade since we've seen the rise of the crowdfunded game. I'm always surprised when I remind myself that crowdfunding has been a thing long before the first crowdfunded video game, but nowadays a crowdfunded game seems like a dime a dozen.

Of course such a phrase is an incredible disservice to some of the great games that have come out thanks to websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Games like FTL, Shovel Knight, and even Undertale are around thanks to crowdfunding; thanks to people gathering around and literally putting their money where their mouth is, a game they want gets funded and inevitably the greater landscape of gaming benefits from it. Most of the time the landscape gets to benefit from it anyways.

Don't worry though, this month's bloggers wanted prompt isn't an exploratory thesis on the effects of crowdfunding on video game development. We just want you to talk about your favorite games, as long as they were crowdfunded. This topic can be simultaneously broad and narrow, because you can talk about whatever game you want, however you want, as long as it was crowdfunded.
For me, FTL is the original crowdfunded game, and it was great. It was somehow minimalist and incredibly detailed at the same time, and it was all done because a man wanted to do it, but needed the money, and thousands of other people wanted to see where his idea would go. Shovel Knight to me feels like this natural evolution of the classic 8-bit gaming of yore without also throwing myself back to a time when gaming was honestly comparatively archaic. And everyone's talked to death about Undertale, so we all know where I'd go with that.

To participate in this month's bloggers wanted, just start a blog! Oh, and title it "Crowdfunded: [your blog title here]." I bet this month is going to be pretty diverse, since it's basically writing about your favorite crowdfunded game. So I hope to hear about some good games revisited or amazing games no one has heard about.

Remember: Persona 5 was not crowdfunded, but excuse me as I plow through it.
