LONG BLOG

Cblog Recaps of 4/23/14 and Striderisms!

   0

The Spring sale on Xbox 360 passed and while it doesn't hold a candle to Steam, I still came away with some games at severely reduced prices and a larger backlog then ever and more important, some fun games to play in my free time. For example, Batman Arkham City.

This game is still mind blowingly fun to me due to the arcadey challenge between combat rooms and predator games. Stringing together the perfect, pristine freeflow combat, countering every hit, using every trick in the book, and messing up a small populations' use of their arm will never get old to me. And now with a bunch of content to explore that I haven't yet, there's still more to be had. I mean, I also got Harley Quinn's Revenge for $3 and that gave me a taste of Robin. Now I've got an itch to buy the Nightwing and Robin challenge packs to experience their unique brand of combat thrashing. While Batman uses his claw to lariat fools, Robin uses his to straight up Bionic Commando zip-kick them into oblivion. Nightwing has less use compared to Robin since he has a challenge pack and a part in HQ's Revenge, but he still has a lot of utilitarian difference in combat with his wing dings and electric kali sticks.

Jumping into AC also reminded me I left a ton of Catwoman challenges unperfected, which I also reminded myself are unperfected because she seems so much weaker compared to the Bat family, mostly due to not rodeoing titan henchmen for efficient room clearing.

Speaking on unperfected challenges, I of course cleared nearly every mission in the main campaign but obviously left the Riddler's case file half complete because fuck, who has time for uber-collectible missions man? But I'm considering on closing the case with Riddler once and for all with enough time.AC is now on my hard drive rather then a disk, so who knows?

I also got BL2 at a 75% off and while it's super late to the multiplayer party, I also managed to get a season pass at 60% off too, meaning I got much more than just one DLC add-on for essentially free. It was too much of a deal to just pass up and I also got Krieg while I was at it. Zer0 is all about finesse in his melee. I should give Krieg a spin for pure, adrenaline junkie melee classes, right?

But mostly I want to build up my Commando and Mechromancer classes up since I left them somewhat hanging. Though my Commando cleared the main campaign, he's only at level 35, really shy of his goal of throwing out two missile equipped Sabre turrets spitting out tons of lead with shield enclosures. And I have a ton of opportunities to get him leveled up now that I have the entire season 1 DLC under my belt.

That is if I can ever pull myself away from Catwoman's combat challenge rooms.

Also, follow the Dtoid Cards tumblr because just because. I want to get my ass in gear to make a Dtoid card but I'm so lazy and mostly about the Cblogs and never have the time to keep up with the Forums unless it's on my terms like Game Threads good luck on keeping up with The Bar or All About Dtoid sub forums.

* - Liked the Moonlight saber from Armored Core? These and more cross-pollination references abound in Dark Souls!

T - Pretend you don't know anything about GTAV and read Grungy describe the weapon mechanics

R - Carmino is the only true Sunset Rider, 10/10

R - Revenile decided to ignore class and jot down his thoughts on Elder Scrolls Online

No fail, so get to failing dammit.

Current "Bloggers Wanted" assignment
Crowdfunded

It feels like it's been a decade since we've seen the rise of the crowdfunded game. I'm always surprised when I remind myself that crowdfunding has been a thing long before the first crowdfunded video game, but nowadays a crowdfunded game seems like a dime a dozen.

Of course such a phrase is an incredible disservice to some of the great games that have come out thanks to websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Games like FTL, Shovel Knight, and even Undertale are around thanks to crowdfunding; thanks to people gathering around and literally putting their money where their mouth is, a game they want gets funded and inevitably the greater landscape of gaming benefits from it. Most of the time the landscape gets to benefit from it anyways.

Don't worry though, this month's bloggers wanted prompt isn't an exploratory thesis on the effects of crowdfunding on video game development. We just want you to talk about your favorite games, as long as they were crowdfunded. This topic can be simultaneously broad and narrow, because you can talk about whatever game you want, however you want, as long as it was crowdfunded.
For me, FTL is the original crowdfunded game, and it was great. It was somehow minimalist and incredibly detailed at the same time, and it was all done because a man wanted to do it, but needed the money, and thousands of other people wanted to see where his idea would go. Shovel Knight to me feels like this natural evolution of the classic 8-bit gaming of yore without also throwing myself back to a time when gaming was honestly comparatively archaic. And everyone's talked to death about Undertale, so we all know where I'd go with that.

To participate in this month's bloggers wanted, just start a blog! Oh, and title it "Crowdfunded: [your blog title here]." I bet this month is going to be pretty diverse, since it's basically writing about your favorite crowdfunded game. So I hope to hear about some good games revisited or amazing games no one has heard about.

Remember: Persona 5 was not crowdfunded, but excuse me as I plow through it.
