Cblog Recaps of 09/23/17 - Going to the Philadelphia Eagles Torture Zone

I'm gonna get this recap done while my Eagles are still beating my bitter hated rivals the giants. So if you notice that the tone of this -gasm turns dark the deeper it goes, just know that the game isn't going well.

It's been a hectic week, had a 3-day weekend and spent exactly 0% of the time stream VLR for Bass and vxxy and instead worked on adult things. Well if you call writing reviews and rankings for fantasy football adult thing.

The Eagles just fumbled the ball.

It's at moments like these that I like to look at the soothing word of Jim Jones. He was a master "boxer" who knocked out 900+ people with one punch. He says "I've got a hell of a lot of weapons to fight! I've got my claws. I've got cutlasses. I've got guns. I've got dynamite. I've got a hell of a lot to fight! I'll fight! I'll fight!!"

Words of wisdom.

Giants just tied it.

Have I mentioned recently how we are all going to die one day? No more Eagles letting me down, no more VLR streams, no more divisive morons in politics, no more shady business dealing from Warner Bros.? Just the end.

Giants just took the lead.

EAGLES TOUCHDOWN AND IT'S TIED!

It's at times like these that I like to look to the word of Mahatma Gandhi. "Victory attained by violence is tantamount to a defeat, for it is momentary."

I think I'm going to leave this recap on that note. It's not super positive or super negative it is a blank slate. There are a lot of great blogs this week so it's a great day regardless of how this game turns out.

* - Bloggers Wanted Entry - Dere offers a very heartfelt and personal look back at how his early struggles with reading were overcome with a little help from Link and Zelda. Dere also sounds like he has the best parents in the world in this and it's such a great little read.

* - In the second part of their create your own Destructoid adventure, dephoenix takes us down a path of mystical double ended dildos and the old women who own them. This is defintely one of the most unique and creative things I've seen in my years at Destructoid.

A - Fellow Flixist writer Drew Stuart AKA Lord of Bollocks wants to kill me and placed this whopper of a retrospective look at the Uncharted series in my lap. This time looking at the final entry in Nathan's story, Uncharted 4. It's thorough so take this one with your morning coffee or cocaine.

R - Blanchimont just hasn't been finding games that they like recently for reviews, this time Digimon World: Next Order (I didn't even know they were still making Digimon games) is up for review and it's not looking good.

D - A bit of a light load this week from Donley about Boss 101. Mostly a few questions answered as well as the implementation of PS4 controller allowance in the game.

Villains that did nothing wrong

Villains in all media, not just video games, can end up being a dime a dozen. Far too often, a villain's motives boil down to "I am a bad, and so I do bad things. Fear me." While this format has worked for countless stories, at this point in my life (the ripe old age of 20) I’ve become jaded and grumpy, finding myself rolling my eyes when I see yet another antagonist wreaking havoc with no background or reasoning presented as to why they’re being such a butthole.

What’s far more interesting to me is when a villain’s motives or actions come across as justified, perhaps leaving you rooting for them to defeat the protagonist [insert Elder God Tier villain meme here].

My favorite example of this would be Meruem from the Chimera Ant arc of Hunter x Hunter. While he doesn’t necessarily fit the exact mold I laid out above, he’s easily one of the most dynamic and curious villains I’ve ever come across. For the sake of not spoiling what is perhaps one of the most exciting, action-packed, and tear-inducing arcs in anime history, I won’t delve into the details of what makes Meruem so great. Instead I encourage anyone who hasn’t seen Hunter x Hunter to set aside some time and plow through the series. Really, it’s that good.

But hey, that’s just how I feel. I’m sure there are folks out there who prefer their villains to be simple. If I ever met one of these theoretical people I might have a panic attack, but I’ll deal with that should the time come. I’m sure after some deep breaths we would get along. Maybe we could even snuggle, should my husband allow such an event to transpire.

All said and done, we arrive at the topic of this month’s Bloggers Wanted: Villains that did nothing wrong. Due to communication errors, this entry in the hallowed halls of Bloggers Wanted is a tad late. Regardless, all you have to do is head over to the Community Blog section of the site, and whip up a Cblog about a villain who you feel was secretly the good guy all along.
