LONG BLOG

Cblog Recaps of 08/14 and Striderisms

Can you believe how long it took me to find a safe looking bunnygirl picture to post here?

So let me get one thing out of the way. I'll try to tip toe around the bushes here in an effort to be tactful. Hell, I'll quote one of Gobun's tweets so I can say I didn't say it but talking to my girlfriend earlier and talking about certain things. Man, I miss her.

So yeah, refer to Gobun's tweet for additional context. You should follow him too. I don't understand a lick of what he says on twitter and I'm not sure I fit his target audience but damn if his content isn't hilarious to me.

If you're reading this babe, I couldn't help it. But what I wouldn't give to see you in one of those.

Meanwhile, after months of people praising it and talking about how it didn't reach sales expectations, I managed to rent Tomb Raider and man Mitch Dyer was not kidding about the first hour. Mostly watching Lara realize just how deep shit she's in, watching said shit hit the fan, and more silent realizations of how fucked she is plus a lot of wolves. Oh man the wolves. It's like a furry convention if somebody got drunk and decided involving actual wild animals was a good idea.

But through it all, I played an awesome action game with just great controls. The kind of controls you'd take for granted in such a rough island. Lara just moves how I want her to all the time. Her jumps at times feel unbelievable but at the same time, majestic.

The shooting also feels good too. I'm sorry, shooting a bow feels good. That feeling you get from pulling the drawstring all the way for a fully charged shot right in some unsuspecting doof's head. Or shooting a quick volley as you move down a hallway asking for all the henchmen to head for their doom towards you.

I'm also glad I rented it. I have a feeling it's a great trip once through and it'd probably be great on more playthroughs but I'd probably just put it down after I beat it with just a passable multiplayer experience.

What I'm really excited for is Splinter Cell Blacklist, especially the Spies Vs. Mercs mode. I never got a chance to try it back with Chaos Theory and I really want to try the newly modernized Spies Vs. Mercs. I love me some assymetrical gameplay and feel like I'll play the shit out of that mode. Oh, and Splinter Cell's newly reborn campaign gameplay style. Panther all the way!

* - For many, Persona 3 is one of their most beloved games for all the things it did right as a fantastic JRPG. For Azure, it is one of his most beloved games of all time for a very different and personal reason. He didn't just play it though; it was as if he was apart of it.

A - The salt, it flows like juicy nectar from steescribbles tears of agony. All the great Japanese games are bullshit and the Illuminatii feed off of his hatred

A - Gamers or gamma testers? What sort of witchcraft of wordcraft are you pulling here zerocrossing?

A - Look at these games! No literally! Look at them! Through the Oculus Rift! You can't not look at them this next-gen!

F - Hump Day Havoc is a game get together thing and you're a lame ass for not knowing that

P - POstudios describes to us Face Noir, a game about noir-ish things

R - Dr. Robotnik's Big, Mean, Motherfucking Bean Flipping Machine

V - Don't be swapping my roles on Zelda now Nightv

N - Doth thou purchase a parcel of audio-visual delights? Then thou shalt spit upon the face of such a conglomerate by the name of E and A incorporated

T - V is not for Vendetta when KingSigy talks COD

R - Titannel looks at Game Gear Ninja Gaiden! Ninja Gayden? Ninja Guyden? Ninja Guy Fieri? SHINOBI!

Current "Bloggers Wanted" assignment
Crowdfunded

It feels like it's been a decade since we've seen the rise of the crowdfunded game. I'm always surprised when I remind myself that crowdfunding has been a thing long before the first crowdfunded video game, but nowadays a crowdfunded game seems like a dime a dozen.

Of course such a phrase is an incredible disservice to some of the great games that have come out thanks to websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Games like FTL, Shovel Knight, and even Undertale are around thanks to crowdfunding; thanks to people gathering around and literally putting their money where their mouth is, a game they want gets funded and inevitably the greater landscape of gaming benefits from it. Most of the time the landscape gets to benefit from it anyways.

Don't worry though, this month's bloggers wanted prompt isn't an exploratory thesis on the effects of crowdfunding on video game development. We just want you to talk about your favorite games, as long as they were crowdfunded. This topic can be simultaneously broad and narrow, because you can talk about whatever game you want, however you want, as long as it was crowdfunded.
For me, FTL is the original crowdfunded game, and it was great. It was somehow minimalist and incredibly detailed at the same time, and it was all done because a man wanted to do it, but needed the money, and thousands of other people wanted to see where his idea would go. Shovel Knight to me feels like this natural evolution of the classic 8-bit gaming of yore without also throwing myself back to a time when gaming was honestly comparatively archaic. And everyone's talked to death about Undertale, so we all know where I'd go with that.

To participate in this month's bloggers wanted, just start a blog! Oh, and title it "Crowdfunded: [your blog title here]." I bet this month is going to be pretty diverse, since it's basically writing about your favorite crowdfunded game. So I hope to hear about some good games revisited or amazing games no one has heard about.

Remember: Persona 5 was not crowdfunded, but excuse me as I plow through it.
