Cblog Recaps of 07/09/14 and Striderisms!

So here's the complete run down of what I bought during the Steam Summer sale. I'm actually surprised at what runs on my laptop. A few things might've been bought with the intention of someday. But I certainly never expected Skullgirls to run. I have my girlfriend to thank when she called me and told me she got herself addicted to it. "You're what? Skullgirls runs on your laptop? I gotta try it then."

Seriously, I need to look at her laptop. That, or the one before my current was hella old.

Jade Empire (status: will play)
I loved Jade Empire back in the day. I played it during my stint as a rental store clerk and never got to finish it of course. My last memory of it back then was recruiting Black Cyclone or whatever that guy's name was with the twin axes.

Sir, You Are Being Hunted Steam (status: on hold)
Unsure of requirements. Then again, I'm surprised how well Skullgirls runs so...

Really Big Sky (status: play someday. Mostly sale grab)

PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX+ (status: play someday. Mostly want to hold for party)

Broken Age (status: sale grab)

Toki Tori 2+ (status: sale grab)

Shelter (status: curious, on hold)

Vanguard Princess (status: sale grab)
I played Vanguard Princess back when it was still making rounds on the Internet as an ex-Capcom employee pet project and was just an executable. I just wanted it for a few dollars less for my collection

One Finger Death Punch (status: on hold)
Basic looking but undeniably fun rhythm combat game.

Ikaruga (status: sale grab)
It's Ikaruga. I love grabbing them shmups.

Aqua Kitty - Milk Mine Defender (status: playing)
This was on my wishlist ever since I combed Steam for side-scrolling shooters. It's not one but it was still interesting as hell and turns out, it is!

Teleglitch: Base Game (status: will play)
The trailer was awesome. Why not?

Gunpoint (status: planned to try)
I saw this on IGN's channel of all places but hey, it was a great demo that sold me. FROG LEAP!

Super Puzzle Platformer Deluxe (status: playing)
Puzzle game? Platformer game? Awesome game!

Organ Trail: Director's Cut (status: sale grab)
I have it on my iPad. I wanted to add to my then small library.

Plants vs. Zombies (status: sale grab)
Who doesn't own this damn game twice over?

Defcon (status: on hold)
A classic of Steam by my view.

Broforce (status: playing)
*EAGLE SCREECH* BROBOCOP! YEAH!

Spacebase DF-9 (status: playing)
A smaller Double Fine resource management game that I talked up on my space list. Oxygen is a premium commodity.

System Shock 2 (status: on hold)
Before Bioshock, there was...

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II (status: on hold)
Before Mass Effect there was...

Ace of Spades: Battle Builder (status: on hold)
After Minecraft there was...

Long Live The Queen (status: tried, on hold)
I haven't played a Japanese visual novel since Ace Attorney. Why not add a leveling mechanic and brutal death at every turn?

Goat Simulator (status: goat)
Baaaah.

They Bleed Pixels (status: sale grab)

Super Amazing Wagon Adventure (status: sale grab)
As seen on Game Grumps' Steam Train!

Delver (status: will play)
I love a rogue-like. I used to love Minecraft. How 'bout that?

Noir Syndrome (status: sale grab)
Rogue-like crime noir? You gotta be kidding me.

World of Goo (status: sale grab)
Played on my Wii. Pretty ok. Aggressively ok.

Kentucky Route Zero (status: playing)
The dog's name is Blu. Take the elevator up. There are bears.

Nidhogg 2-Pack (status: on hold)
One for me, one for Everyday Legend. HAVE AT THEE.

Garry's Mod (status: sale grab)
I don't own this game?

Surgeon Simulator (status: on hold)
I know your kind.

Orion Dino Horde (status: sale grab)
$20 game for $2. COM'ON!

Skullgirls Gift (status: playing)
Gonna main Squigly. Can't wait for Eliza.

BattleBlock Theater (status: on hold)
The 360 darling on PC!

The Swapper (status: sale grab)
See a pattern here?

Jazzpunk (status: will play)
Adult Swim games huh? WITH HUMOR.

Metal Slug 3 (status: on hold)
As if I don't know what I'm getting myself into here.

E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy (status: sale grab)
I forgot I bought this.

Toki Tori (status: sale grab)

The Cave (status: on hold)
Requisite Double Fine purchase

Octodad: Dadliest Catch (status: on hold)
Octopus simulator 2014, fatherhood DLC installed

PixelJunk™ Shooter (status: on hold)
CRAZY SHOOTER WOO.

Half-Life 2 (status: on hold)
Yes, I've never beaten it.

XCOM Enemy Unknown (ROW) (status: on hold)
If its good enough for Wrenchfarm...

Castle Crashers (status: on hold)
Probably will play with girlfriend if anything.

Wizorb (status: playing)
All the fun of Breakout with magic.

Psychonauts (status: playing)
Main play. Oh, I'm playing this game so hard. I love this game.

Super House of Dead Ninjas (status: on hold)
Saw on _Star's channel. Why not? I'm OCD on speedruns.

And there you go. $200 worth of games added to my collection and more possibly on the way if they pop up on sale to gift to my girlfriend for new ways to play with each other. I mean, I was really surprised to hear her say she got addicted to Skullgirls of all games. First Animal Crossing, now Skulgirls. She really is my soulmate. She probably won't become midtier at it but still, I could someday talk strats with her on matchups.

A - Save the Vita! Or don't! CTG cares though. Does Sony care? Most likely no. But we can still dream of a better world

D - Twisted Jenius updates us on his game: Reptile Zoo. Retrofaction suggests work on a dynamic lighting system

T - Invictus is nervous about Dragon Age: Inquisition. Are you ready to open your heart to Bioware one more time?

T - Swagger can't believe in the debacle on Ground Zeroes. Remember when MGS was about replayability? Pepperidge Farms doesn't remember.

Current "Bloggers Wanted" assignment
Crowdfunded

It feels like it's been a decade since we've seen the rise of the crowdfunded game. I'm always surprised when I remind myself that crowdfunding has been a thing long before the first crowdfunded video game, but nowadays a crowdfunded game seems like a dime a dozen.

Of course such a phrase is an incredible disservice to some of the great games that have come out thanks to websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Games like FTL, Shovel Knight, and even Undertale are around thanks to crowdfunding; thanks to people gathering around and literally putting their money where their mouth is, a game they want gets funded and inevitably the greater landscape of gaming benefits from it. Most of the time the landscape gets to benefit from it anyways.

Don't worry though, this month's bloggers wanted prompt isn't an exploratory thesis on the effects of crowdfunding on video game development. We just want you to talk about your favorite games, as long as they were crowdfunded. This topic can be simultaneously broad and narrow, because you can talk about whatever game you want, however you want, as long as it was crowdfunded.
For me, FTL is the original crowdfunded game, and it was great. It was somehow minimalist and incredibly detailed at the same time, and it was all done because a man wanted to do it, but needed the money, and thousands of other people wanted to see where his idea would go. Shovel Knight to me feels like this natural evolution of the classic 8-bit gaming of yore without also throwing myself back to a time when gaming was honestly comparatively archaic. And everyone's talked to death about Undertale, so we all know where I'd go with that.

To participate in this month's bloggers wanted, just start a blog! Oh, and title it "Crowdfunded: [your blog title here]." I bet this month is going to be pretty diverse, since it's basically writing about your favorite crowdfunded game. So I hope to hear about some good games revisited or amazing games no one has heard about.

Remember: Persona 5 was not crowdfunded, but excuse me as I plow through it.
