LONG BLOG

Cblog Recaps of 05/29 and Striderisms!

   0

I'm really not sure what to say here. The past few weeks have been a blur due to travel and grad nights. Staying up until 4am average so some shitty ass high school kids can celebrate their graduation upon entering some college where they can party, have sex, and smoke weed. I've been losing my sense of time because I've been staying up and losing sleep. You know what happened on the 24th? I worked from 11:45pm to 7am. Reasonable number of hours for grave yard shift times, goddamn.

And worst of all, I really thought I'd get a lot more from my paycheck for it. The previous week surprised me with the smaller number of hours and a surprising number for pay but this week's pay in relation to the hours seems a bit disappointing. I mean, it actually makes sense but I thought it'd be more for a couple of premiums stacked on top of each other.

It's getting close to the wire for me as June 9 is quickly approaching and I've put down quite a bit for my pre-orders but not so much so that I won't notice the purchase when the time comes.

So basically, let's talk about something nice real quick, shall we?

I don't have much talk about in terms of news or blogging. It's actually because I have a lot of ideas I want to put down and don't want to use it as Striderisms. Like something actually talking about Guilty Gear Xrd (which no one seems to have done). I actually have a special thing planned for another blog. Today's Thursday actually as I compose these Striderisms so Oracle of Ages and Seasons have released for the 3DS eShop, which is good because I don't want to play Injustice all the way until Animal Crossing. I haven't played those two titles so it'll be nice to play something on my handheld on my ways around while I wait for AC. It'd be nice if my girlfriend could actually help me on paying for her bundle as a show of generosity but I was always going to get it for her regardless. I'm paying so I have someone close to me to play with.

Speaking of Injustice, I've come to the point where I can only play Green Arrow. I've tried to learn other characters and have been successful in learning their play styles. But when it comes to putting it on 100% mode blast, I can only do so with GA. But goddamn are his combos infuriatingly weak. 30% is still respectable but I have to work for it so hard. Compared to Green Lantern just picking fools up with Lift and a bar and doing it practically asleep at the wheel. But no, I can't go back to Green Lantern because I have a legitimate problem with his foot speed. Like, he's so lazy on moving his ass, can you please backdash like you're concerned Hal? But goddammit Ollie's backdash sucks too. What is it with me picking characters who cannot backdash.

Luckily, I can just use Savage Blast with Ollie, which is that attack where he straight up jumps backwards and shoots an exploding arrow at the ground for your trouble. Like, his backdash sucks but he has a move that trades invincibility frames for a safety net and damage. Still, if I were to buff GA, I'd love for his meter burn moves to actually extend combos. Most GA usage either saves meter for armored moves, clash, or super, and of course if you use clash or super you have no meter left for the other. It's an annoying balancing act but even with super (which is unblockable) it's a risky gambit because the enemy can easily clash afterwards and negate all your effort. That is unless you decide use nothing but unclashable moves and single hits to snuff their efforts to regain health.

Of hey, I decided to talk about Injustice afterall. Cool story bro. CAPS.

Current "Bloggers Wanted" assignment
Changes

It feels like it's been a decade since we've seen the rise of the crowdfunded game. I'm always surprised when I remind myself that crowdfunding has been a thing long before the first crowdfunded video game, but nowadays a crowdfunded game seems like a dime a dozen.

Of course such a phrase is an incredible disservice to some of the great games that have come out thanks to websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Games like FTL, Shovel Knight, and even Undertale are around thanks to crowdfunding; thanks to people gathering around and literally putting their money where their mouth is, a game they want gets funded and inevitably the greater landscape of gaming benefits from it. Most of the time the landscape gets to benefit from it anyways.

Don't worry though, this month's bloggers wanted prompt isn't an exploratory thesis on the effects of crowdfunding on video game development. We just want you to talk about your favorite games, as long as they were crowdfunded. This topic can be simultaneously broad and narrow, because you can talk about whatever game you want, however you want, as long as it was crowdfunded.
For me, FTL is the original crowdfunded game, and it was great. It was somehow minimalist and incredibly detailed at the same time, and it was all done because a man wanted to do it, but needed the money, and thousands of other people wanted to see where his idea would go. Shovel Knight to me feels like this natural evolution of the classic 8-bit gaming of yore without also throwing myself back to a time when gaming was honestly comparatively archaic. And everyone's talked to death about Undertale, so we all know where I'd go with that.

To participate in this month's bloggers wanted, just start a blog! Oh, and title it "Crowdfunded: [your blog title here]." I bet this month is going to be pretty diverse, since it's basically writing about your favorite crowdfunded game. So I hope to hear about some good games revisited or amazing games no one has heard about.

Remember: Persona 5 was not crowdfunded, but excuse me as I plow through it.
