CBlog Recaps of 02/20/2018 - Step Forward

Sorry, I had an -ism topic all prepped for this week, but then I reconsidered after ascertaining it to arrive too quickly for its intended discussion. This leaves me without a relatable (to me) subject to cover at length. Fortuitously, that actually feeds to the forefront an opportunity scarce.

What would you like to read in the Recaps?

We Recappers spill forth our musings on all things great and small, from gaming to living to science to history to anime to comics to broccoli steamed to illustrious perfection. We inquire of the people on these topics, sure. We even invite disagreements in the spirit of respectful discussion. Nothing gets past our watch, and we watch over in style.

We almost never just plop down in here and ask what's up and what's down, what's great and what's poor - what do you folks down there, reading the Recaps, typing the comments, consider we could add to (or subtract from) our unceasing Recaps? What would you like to read?

Some Recaps run lengthy, implacably so; some Recaps stay curt so you stop, drop, and go; some Recaps beguile with topics on cue; some Recaps bedevil with randomness, too. (Once in a while, we rhyme on a dime.)

Here is your place to speak on it all. You're welcome to do so under any of the Recaps, mind. This merely represents a solicited moment.

I'll head down to the comment box to hear your remarks. Please, if you would: step forward. Thank you in advance!

* - Blogs should run long, yes, but blogs should also express their purposes in robust fashion. Our purple-addicted invader, TheLimoMaker, succeeds at both aspirations in detailing his favorite games from 2017's absolutely stellar catalog. Of the entries I've played, I wholeheartedly recommended Yakuza 0 and NieR: Automata in a prior recap, and I take keen interest in future may-plays such as Nioh and Hellblade. Right then, enough from me - go read Limo's lush paragraphs!

A - Lord Spencer gives a fair, professional rundown of the library of the inimitable Sega Genesis. I received this console a full 4 years before I did an SNES, and honestly, to this day, I still slightly prefer the library on the Sega platform - a position which lands me well outside the norm (and possibly unforgivable). Whatever one's own position, do give Spencer's longform blog a quality look. Then go play some freakin' Gunstar Heroes or Phantasy Star IV, yo!

S - I actually played this Othello knockoff once, though in a cheap shareware form on Windows 95 as opposed to the MSX(!) copy evaluted here, by Flegma. Its hexagonal layout drove me bananas in my tiny youthful brains. What fascinates me most? That the original Othello has yet to be 'solved' by computational analyses. Talk about unexpected complexity.

Enter at your own peril, for DToid handeth away 15 digital copies of the tactical/tower fusion title, Defender's Quest DX. Don't you wanna win a game then let it loiter in your Steam/PS4/XB1 library evermore? Don't ya?? (seriously, if you win, give it a whirl)

Since I missed out on most of the community shenanigans this past week, I'mma instead toss some props for everyone's favorite parody DToid account: MATT DAMON

T - ViceProphet pumps out a coarse Monster Hunter blog. Look, we do keep things easy going at this site. I, uh, might propose a less...helter-skelter tone? The blog doesn't really present as much usable data as it could, owing to the interspliced barbs.

All right, listen up. Extreme Pinball on Windows fed our family addictions for a couple years running. I like how the 'intro' emulates a concert tuneup, then the proper voltage begins. "Tip the doorman, tip the doorman..."

C - I give "advert" blogs like this from janserra modest leeway. Seriously, though, interact with the community (a la Boss 101) should you wish to promote your creations. Don't just sign up, blog, then evaporate.

I don't have a problem. I have a solution. The solution would be: more Miku.

Larx out, homeslice~

Current "Bloggers Wanted" assignment

Costume Party

When it comes to October, it's pretty easy to come up with an idea for Bloggers Wanted. Halloween presents a lot of options. People will start playing horror games and marathon scary movies, but then there's the ultimate question for the day itself:

"What am I going to wear?"

Costumes are, after all, at the very heart of Halloween's fun. Whether you're playing a game with a canon character like Lara Croft, Spider-Man or a customized character in Monster Hunter World or an MMO, you're still faced with the question of what are you going to look like. Sometimes you even have stat bonuses to further complicate things, while other games have made it so you can have all the lovely stat bonuses and still make something that looks nice to you. Some folks even take this all huge step further and will realize such costumes for real-life cosplay.

As someone that posts often about Final Fantasy XIV, I have spent countless hours obtaining all kinds of armor, weapons and accessories from various corners of the game and only for the reason of it looking cool. In fact, once I have a job at 50, I feel obligated to give each of my jobs a fanciful glowing weapon before I press forward.

And then I give each job their own little pet sidekick, because I have decided my character is a Disney princess. Then I write macros that give them a blend of super sentai/Sailor Moon transformations because henshin a-go-go, baby!

But, if I'm honest, my one true love in regards to outfits in the game is the Invalician Samurai set, which I got from the Rabanastre raid. The design is pulled right from the Final Fantasy Tactics' art concept of the female samurai and is wonderfully realized.

But sometimes looking good comes at a price, too. I remember my favorite look for my Corsair in Final Fantasy XI required me wearing pants that reduced my movement speed by twenty percent and some of the best stat-based builds in Monster Hunter can make you look silly.

So this month's topic for Bloggers Wanted is costumes. Whether the costume is realized in-game or in real-life, we'd like for you to to discuss your favorite creations or tributes to characters, whether it's a custom look, a canon character or even a character skin like you'd find in Overwatch or Fortnite. You can discuss cosplays you've done, or cosplayers you admire. You can even talk about the plights of stat-based function over fashion.

The sky is the limit on this one, so head on over to our community blogs and get to writing! Use the prompt "Costume party: [Your title here]" and be sure to place "Bloggers Wanted" in the tags!

Now if you'll excuse me, I have get Bayonetta dressed up. She's heard about everyone and everything becoming Princess Peach and she would like to remind the world she was ahead of the curve on that.
