LONG BLOG

Cblog recaps - 11/16/08 + Randombullisms

   0

Hey guys. I played Fallout 3 for two weeks. In the pursuit of a job as a games journalism work, I wrote a Fallout 3 review. I pointed out some problems I had with it and my experiences with the game. I've got a lot of stuff written out and nearly finished for the cblogs. Old school games returns! With a new name! Hooray! Everyday this week I'll have a new post! Also this week I'll post a review of Conan on xbox 360! If I can finish the game and my review that is.

Also Tuesday is the day I want to finish Bonerquest! I'm going to try to spend all day working on it and hopefully get it done. I've selected a handful of people to test the game. I tried to pick people that I knew better than others that were a little more responsible and honest. I don't want Bonerquest to be insanely difficult or a complete cake walk. Also have to find out if the game is too crazy. Sorry to those of you that wanted to try it out first. It isn't quite ready yet for everyone to try out, but maybe soon.

Have to hook up the playstation one this week some replays. Megaman 8, we meet again! I'm going to put off buying any new games until next week. I also have to avoid putting Final Fantasy Tactics anywhere near my playstation. I don't have 200 hours to spend getting calculators again.

I want to switch to Mondays from the weekends. Also recappers please, please use the final post of the day option. I hate having to decipher what was recapped and what wasn't. I just had to guess today and I got confused and thought there were only five posts yesterday. So yeah. Pretty please with sugar on top post the final post of the day. If not here than in the recap thing. Even if I can never figure out my login information I still get e-mails telling me what gets posted. If that's okay with the recap team. My schedule has changed and this week I'm in a position so that I could do the Monday night recap. So just hit me with a private message or an e-mail.

Other then that, if you guys catch me on live I'm up for playing stuff anytime. Just ask. Still haven't found someone to play Marvel Ultimate Alliance with. Okay, that's it for me.

Any errors in tonight's recap, grammatical, typographical, or bbcodde, I will fix later this morning. Hopefully.

Villains that did nothing wrong

Villains in all media, not just video games, can end up being a dime a dozen. Far too often, a villain's motives boil down to "I am a bad, and so I do bad things. Fear me." While this format has worked for countless stories, at this point in my life (the ripe old age of 20) I’ve become jaded and grumpy, finding myself rolling my eyes when I see yet another antagonist wreaking havoc with no background or reasoning presented as to why they’re being such a butthole.

What’s far more interesting to me is when a villain’s motives or actions come across as justified, perhaps leaving you rooting for them to defeat the protagonist [insert Elder God Tier villain meme here].

My favorite example of this would be Meruem from the Chimera Ant arc of Hunter x Hunter. While he doesn’t necessarily fit the exact mold I laid out above, he’s easily one of the most dynamic and curious villains I’ve ever come across. For the sake of not spoiling what is perhaps one of the most exciting, action-packed, and tear-inducing arcs in anime history, I won’t delve into the details of what makes Meruem so great. Instead I encourage anyone who hasn’t seen Hunter x Hunter to set aside some time and plow through the series. Really, it’s that good.

But hey, that’s just how I feel. I’m sure there are folks out there who prefer their villains to be simple. If I ever met one of these theoretical people I might have a panic attack, but I’ll deal with that should the time come. I’m sure after some deep breaths we would get along. Maybe we could even snuggle, should my husband allow such an event to transpire.

All said and done, we arrive at the topic of this month’s Bloggers Wanted: Villains that did nothing wrong. Due to communication errors, this entry in the hallowed halls of Bloggers Wanted is a tad late. Regardless, all you have to do is head over to the Community Blog section of the site, and whip up a Cblog about a villain who you feel was secretly the good guy all along.
