LONG BLOG

C blogs of 8-09-10 and Too Damn Lateisms

Bruce Campbell is still the best thing about Burn Notice, and everything about that show is pretty good.

Huh? Nah. Aw, c'mon. What're you talking about? It's only... eight, nine, carry the one... seventeen, eighteen hours? That's pretty damn late!

So, yes, mea culpa, my apologies to all the recapketeers out there. I won't go into why Monday is going up after Tuesday except to say that sometimes, quite frequently in fact, I really wouldn't mind having a different job. Anyway. Lots of Topsauce yesterday, I'm sorry I made you wait for it. Let's get to it as swiftly as possible.

*-Short, sweet, and to the point: Yes, yes I DO like videogame music. Thank you for asking, and thank you even more for sharing.
*-Eh, it's a Beyamor musing. You know it's good.
*-Bushofghosts made up some truly sw33t stickers based on her Astro headset entry, and you can have one if you want. And want you will.
*-Commentoid is just getting started, and already Monodi tried to break it. Looks like the community is onboard with this new feature though.
*-A night of altered consciousness left Om Nom on Souls a little introspective and a lot more receptive to games without stories.
*-LK404 knows how to make Sonic good again. Let's hope at least some of these suggestions make it into Sonic Colors.
*-BulletMagnet's Magnet school concludes with this, the graduation ceremony. I can almost hear Pomp and Circumstance in the background.

A-Rika's guide to Quakecon fashion can be applied to any convention--though you may substitute Bawls for Brawndo at PAX.
S-MattJay is starting a new series about games that are family appropriate, capable of holding both a child and an adult's interest.
M-Kytherno is biased FOR rail shooters and AGAINST Square Enix, if I'm reading this correctly.

W-Corduroy Turtle gave away some old school Xbox games if you could make him laugh last week. Congratulations to the winners.
W-And MrAndyDixon had his daughter help him choose the winners for his vintage game poster contest. Say it with me now, folks; D'awwwwww.
C-Zoel is hosting a Blazblu tournament on the PS3. Get fighting!

E-Dtoid New England is planning a NARP August 21, the details are up on their blog.
I-Greetings to MJW282, who somewhat surprisingly isn't an adbot. Or maybe is just a reaaally good one.
I-And welcome to Bear Guts, who didn't give us much to go on. At least the banner's nice.
R-Sparkplay Media, developers of Earth Eternal, is no more. Our condolences, gentlemen.
H- Winged Kraby showed off his room, is spectacular Blur-O-Vision!

R-Mason Rhade wrote up the Overlord DLC for Mass Effect 2. There's a spoiler warning, so I didn't go too far into it.
T-dontTrip posted some thoughts about which fighting games he'd most like to see crossover, and why.
T-PiZZaReaver 23 thinks some of the things he saw in the Black Ops trailer had better stay in multiplayer.
T-Mellor thinks complaining about the price of indie games is a waste of breath.
D-Alex Vostrov gave us an update on his upcoming indie game, Infested Planet.

F-You DO NOT INSULT THE TOOTHBRUSH MAN.

I tried this stuff at PAX. It tasted like liquid SweetTarts and gave me a rapid heartbeat for about an hour.

Current "Bloggers Wanted" assignment
Changes

It feels like it's been a decade since we've seen the rise of the crowdfunded game. I'm always surprised when I remind myself that crowdfunding has been a thing long before the first crowdfunded video game, but nowadays a crowdfunded game seems like a dime a dozen.

Of course such a phrase is an incredible disservice to some of the great games that have come out thanks to websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Games like FTL, Shovel Knight, and even Undertale are around thanks to crowdfunding; thanks to people gathering around and literally putting their money where their mouth is, a game they want gets funded and inevitably the greater landscape of gaming benefits from it. Most of the time the landscape gets to benefit from it anyways.

Don't worry though, this month's bloggers wanted prompt isn't an exploratory thesis on the effects of crowdfunding on video game development. We just want you to talk about your favorite games, as long as they were crowdfunded. This topic can be simultaneously broad and narrow, because you can talk about whatever game you want, however you want, as long as it was crowdfunded.
For me, FTL is the original crowdfunded game, and it was great. It was somehow minimalist and incredibly detailed at the same time, and it was all done because a man wanted to do it, but needed the money, and thousands of other people wanted to see where his idea would go. Shovel Knight to me feels like this natural evolution of the classic 8-bit gaming of yore without also throwing myself back to a time when gaming was honestly comparatively archaic. And everyone's talked to death about Undertale, so we all know where I'd go with that.

To participate in this month's bloggers wanted, just start a blog! Oh, and title it "Crowdfunded: [your blog title here]." I bet this month is going to be pretty diverse, since it's basically writing about your favorite crowdfunded game. So I hope to hear about some good games revisited or amazing games no one has heard about.

Remember: Persona 5 was not crowdfunded, but excuse me as I plow through it.
