LONG BLOG

C Blogs of 5/15/10 and 5/16/10 + SilverDragonisms

   0

Iím not sure if anyone has noticed, but it has been almost six months to the day since Iíve actually written a Dtoid community blog. Sure I do the recaps every weekend, but I havenít actually written a real blog since Christmas Eve of 2009. You might think this is because I spend all my time writing for Gamer Limit, but I havenít written for them much lately either. The last review I wrote was for God of War 3, and besides that Iíve only done a couple news posts here and there.

The main reason I havenít had any time to write the last six months is because Iíve been working my ass off trying to finish graduate school. Well, Iím happy to announce that as of this weekend, I have officially graduated college, again, with my Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering. Iíve been going back to school now at nights for 5 years, while still working 40+ hours a week at my job, and all that pain and suffering has finally come to an end. I have to admit that itís an incredibly good feeling to finally have that goal accomplished and out of the way.

Now that Iím done I can finally get back to playing games and writing reviews. Actually, Iím working on a review right now for Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. Unfortunately Iím under NDA so I canít talk about it, but if you are interested you should check out Gamer Limit on Tuesday for my review. If you are interested in the game youíll definitely want to read it.

Well I hope everyone had a good weekend. Before I go I just want to give a shout out to the school I just graduated from: North Carolina State University. Iíve given that school 10 years of my life, and tens of thousands of dollars, and I donít regret a second of any of it.

GO PACK !!!!

Current "Bloggers Wanted" assignment
First Kiss

No matter what the experience was or which game or genre left that strong first impression, such experiences have the potential to open our eyes to the rich history of a series or genre. With any luck, we might find even more to love or something better. A great first experience with RPGs could lead to an undying love affair.

Sometimes a first kiss can be so impactful that the game gets placed on a pedestal and enshrined as a gold standard, which has its own pros and cons. I mean, it is nice to have a basis for comparison, but some folks take it too far. There are people who loved Half-Life, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, or Final Fantasy VII so much that nothing after them really got a fair shake.

So first impressions matter -- they can shape and inform our gaming habits. I grew up on arcades, Nintendo, handhelds, and eventually into RPGs, so much of what I play will be influenced by how I acquired my tastes. I probably like Overwatch a ton because it has a passion for RPG roles, but contextualizes them closer to older shooters focused on objectives more than gear builds and grinding out perks for better killstreaks.

So for this month's Bloggers Wanted, we'd like you head over to the community blogs write about your first kiss, the games that positively influenced you or maybe biased you a little too much for a time. What turned you on to a series or genre? Was it love at first sight? Did it set any expectations in stone or possibly lead you to something better?

Whatever the case might be, remember to use the title "First kiss" and place "Bloggers Wanted" in the tags!
