LONG BLOG

C-blogs of 3-26-09 and Qalamarisms

   0

Salutations, mechanoids. I trust your Thursday was pleasant? Mine went fairly well. I picked up LittleBigPlanet during the sale at GoGamer and it came yesterday. While I have certainly enjoyed what I've played of it, it's not enough to draw me out of the Capitol Wasteland for the time being. I do have a question I hope someone can help me with, though. I've been downloading all of the free Sackboy costumes in anticipation of buying the game, but I'm not seeing them in my Poppit anywhere. Do I have to play through a certain amount of the game to unlock them or something? Also-- if you've made a level, let me know; I'd love to try it out. My PSN name is Qalamari.

Even Sackboy is not immune to the insidious effects of fail.

Anyway. Lots of good blogs today. Please take note of Bwark-Kupo's contest on the sidebar there, it's been extended until April Fool's day.

*-I enjoyed it, but I didn't understand everything in this post. I'm gonna blame the accent.
*-Freefall gets a weight off of his shoulders by confessing to some minor gaming sins. God forgives you. Go forth, say 25 Hail Marios and sin no more.
*-Mr. Destructoid sent us all this postcard of himself on Miami beach with some limey lovelies.
*-Zodiac Eclipse wrote a nice little think piece about Entropia (MMO developer) and their move to legitimize in-game currency.

S-Agonofinis begins a new series about literacy called S.H.A.F.T. I like this guy already.
S-Gemsi always lets the EU gamers know what's up on Thursdays.
A-Discarded Couch Sandwich's blog was a flareup in the Wii flamewar that's been ongoing the last week or so. Still... great name, and a pretty good blog.
S- Dimly's Power Trip series takes a look at Guitar Hero's Star Power.

C-Is this a contest? Not really sure. Bwark-Kupo wants you to show off your hats. Word of warning: mine's better than all y'all's.
C-Bwark-Kupo is also holding a contest to win $20 worth of Microsoft's moon money or a Protoman figure, and it's been extended due to some family concerns.

I-Third time's the charm as de BLOO introduces himself properly. Welcome to Destructoid.
R-Been a while since we've had an R.I.P. My condolences, Dexter.

N-Hideo Kojima's keynote address at the Game Developer's conference got Pascuz thinking about what Metal Gear Solid 5 might end up like.
V-PanzerDrako thinks Atlus thinks he's a pervert. The video he posted of Super Robot Taisen etc etc etc reminded me of getting my ass kicked in Killer Instinct. ULTRAAAAA COMBOOOOOOO!
V-The Reborn posted the leaked God of War 3 shakycam footage. If making a 20-foot cyclops ram his way through a horde of enemies while blinded with rage and pain is wrong, I have no interest in your concepts of morality, sir.
R-Styles B LKV reviewed Legends of Wrestlemania. He could probably use some pointers on controller hygiene.
T-Magnalon wrote a bit about one of the best licensed games ever made. I think I may just fire up my NES once I'm done with the recaps.
T-JusticeDude did not enjoy the unsolicited intimacy (read, rape) he received upon signing in to XBox LIve Arcade.
T-Haxan is willing to forgive and forget what Nintendid.
R-Ckarasu wrote 9999 levels worth of words in this epic 3-game Disgaea showdown.
T-Tubatic has been obsessing over the notes in Fable 2. In my opinion, one of the marks of a good game is that you think about it while you're doing other stuff.
T-NihonTiger thinks Nintendo's announcement of Virtual Console Arcade might allow for something more than what they've so far revealed.

A-GrumpyTurtle continues to impress with his near-daily doodles depicting the secret lives of your favorite game characters.
L-Vexed Alex did some comic reviews for Wormwood and Fell. The artwork on display here is beautiful.
S-JT706 alerts the masses to the existence of an ugly-but-awesome gamer shirt from Shirt.Woot.

L-Sorny Austrailia shood reallly consentrate onn howw theyy speel in there adds.
R-Kitae mocked one James Sterling about her location relative to his own. Bad form, m'dear. Funny, but bad form.
C-GoP Scarecrow posted a link about a WoW box that's been signed by the designers, I think. I didn't want to copy the URL in case he was selling my information to a gold spammer.
?-This is a highly technical, step-by-step guide on how to avoid the Zune's DRM restrictions. They still make Zunes?
R-ThisisSami had a question about the PS3's Gaia visualizer.

F-You didn't really think this out, did you?
F-PUT SHOE ON HEAD. FAKE SHOE ON FAKE HEAD. FAKE HEAD LIKE REAL HEAD BUT NO A THING INSIDE.
F-Despite the last caption, I'm not really a fan of the 4chan lifestyle.

And now for the nightly video.

Scary Womanizing Pig Mask should like this one.

Current "Bloggers Wanted" assignment
Changes

It feels like it's been a decade since we've seen the rise of the crowdfunded game. I'm always surprised when I remind myself that crowdfunding has been a thing long before the first crowdfunded video game, but nowadays a crowdfunded game seems like a dime a dozen.

Of course such a phrase is an incredible disservice to some of the great games that have come out thanks to websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Games like FTL, Shovel Knight, and even Undertale are around thanks to crowdfunding; thanks to people gathering around and literally putting their money where their mouth is, a game they want gets funded and inevitably the greater landscape of gaming benefits from it. Most of the time the landscape gets to benefit from it anyways.

Don't worry though, this month's bloggers wanted prompt isn't an exploratory thesis on the effects of crowdfunding on video game development. We just want you to talk about your favorite games, as long as they were crowdfunded. This topic can be simultaneously broad and narrow, because you can talk about whatever game you want, however you want, as long as it was crowdfunded.
For me, FTL is the original crowdfunded game, and it was great. It was somehow minimalist and incredibly detailed at the same time, and it was all done because a man wanted to do it, but needed the money, and thousands of other people wanted to see where his idea would go. Shovel Knight to me feels like this natural evolution of the classic 8-bit gaming of yore without also throwing myself back to a time when gaming was honestly comparatively archaic. And everyone's talked to death about Undertale, so we all know where I'd go with that.

To participate in this month's bloggers wanted, just start a blog! Oh, and title it "Crowdfunded: [your blog title here]." I bet this month is going to be pretty diverse, since it's basically writing about your favorite crowdfunded game. So I hope to hear about some good games revisited or amazing games no one has heard about.

Remember: Persona 5 was not crowdfunded, but excuse me as I plow through it.
