LONG BLOG

C Blogs Of 10/01/13 + mcgeeisms

Long time, no CAP! I'm filling in for Wrenchfarm while he spreads the good word of the Mech around the countryside.

I've been up to the usual lately: trying all the different candy corn I can find. For review purposes, of course. I've made my through some caramel apple-flavored candy corn, and today I'll be busting open a Starburst branded cob. The texture seems fine, but I'm having a hard time imagining how it meshes with fruity flavor.
Towards the end of October, I'll probably have a big roundup of my criticisms so everybody can decide what kind of Corn to stock for their parties/trick-or-treaters. It's an important decision to have to make, and I want to help people be properly informed. So please, if there's a CC you want to see covered, or just have a favorite to suggest, feel free!

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to being disconnected from Grand Theft Auto Online. Good to CAP again :)

C - pk fire wants to start a new community project: Musicians Wanted. For those familiar with Bloggers Wanted or Artists Wanted, this is exactly what you think it is. What says you, community? Is this a good idea? Would you participate?

N - zerocrossing sums up the Mighty No. 9 campaign in this one from his personal blog. They reached over $4 million by the time it finished!!

T - TheDustinThomas doesn't want games using the term "Game of the Year Edition" without some actual accolades to back it up. It is pretty obnoxious. ISN'T THAT RIGHT, DEAD ISLAND??

V - JordanLloyd traverses the Eurogamer Expo floor, and tries out all the new things. Check it out!

A - Words fail Panzadolphin56, so instead he put his empty feelings into one Art that expresses the inner confusion caused by Dead Space 3.

C - Alasdair Duncan continues his backlog quest, although you would never know it because he cannot format or use the preview function :P You can still tell what the choices are by the pictures, so there's that!

V - MiB1231 is participating in Extra Life! Good man. Check out his video and donation page, as he supports Children's Miracle Network by playing games for 25 hours straight.

F - JackSlack is a PC thug, and I won't tolerate it.

Villains that did nothing wrong

Villains in all media, not just video games, can end up being a dime a dozen. Far too often, a villain's motives boil down to "I am a bad, and so I do bad things. Fear me." While this format has worked for countless stories, at this point in my life (the ripe old age of 20) I’ve become jaded and grumpy, finding myself rolling my eyes when I see yet another antagonist wreaking havoc with no background or reasoning presented as to why they’re being such a butthole.

What’s far more interesting to me is when a villain’s motives or actions come across as justified, perhaps leaving you rooting for them to defeat the protagonist [insert Elder God Tier villain meme here].

My favorite example of this would be Meruem from the Chimera Ant arc of Hunter x Hunter. While he doesn’t necessarily fit the exact mold I laid out above, he’s easily one of the most dynamic and curious villains I’ve ever come across. For the sake of not spoiling what is perhaps one of the most exciting, action-packed, and tear-inducing arcs in anime history, I won’t delve into the details of what makes Meruem so great. Instead I encourage anyone who hasn’t seen Hunter x Hunter to set aside some time and plow through the series. Really, it’s that good.

But hey, that’s just how I feel. I’m sure there are folks out there who prefer their villains to be simple. If I ever met one of these theoretical people I might have a panic attack, but I’ll deal with that should the time come. I’m sure after some deep breaths we would get along. Maybe we could even snuggle, should my husband allow such an event to transpire.

All said and done, we arrive at the topic of this month’s Bloggers Wanted: Villains that did nothing wrong. Due to communication errors, this entry in the hallowed halls of Bloggers Wanted is a tad late. Regardless, all you have to do is head over to the Community Blog section of the site, and whip up a Cblog about a villain who you feel was secretly the good guy all along.
