Gee, I sure do hope everyone wants to hear more about those stompy Titanfall robots!

What? No? Oh, okay... but that's all I've been playing.

Well what else do I have going on? The other day I made a Tumblr account where you can see more stompy robot and videogame related things. You might notice I have an About Me and Portfolio section on there like a big boy real writer. I'm trying to up my game and start writing "for real" so I needed a one-stop shop where people could check out some of my stuff. So yeah, that's a thing.

I've had Jazzpunk staring at me from my Steam library for the past two (three?) weeks. My brother looked me in the eyes the other day and told me I was a "soul-criminal" for not playing it yet. Hopefully I'll be able to crave out some time for some surreal espionage action over the next few days.

Mercenary Kings is finally out in full-actual-for-real-this-time release and I really want to play that too! If not for the oldschool Metal Slug action, than for the charming pre-release trailer. I have a special place in my heart for soft voices singing about terrible things.

- No topsauce today *sadface*
P - 1st Spooge Office reporting for holodeck clean up duty.

P - The Videogame Rescue podcast/youtube group are talking about Rifts, and books, and faces this week.

R - Gather your Einherjar for this review of Valkyrie Profile 2. I was a HUGE fan of VP1 and it makes me a little sad to have missed the sequel.

M - DRUM SOLO! DRUM SOLO! DRUM SOLO! Er,- sorry. I watched the new Muppets movie last weekend and I'm still in kind of an Animal mindspace.

A - An advance look at the Drakengard 3 guide book. It will have pictures of those crazy flower face girls just chilling in a cafe apparently, which actually kind of makes me want to check it out. Can we just get a game about girls with flowers coming out of their eye sockets chatting with each other?

? - Your glorious leader and mine, Zombie Orwell, is back. Soak in his mind thoughts, feel his disappointment at the lack of Eminem loin chops in his life, and maybe buy his "transcriptionist's" book.

C - Looks like Joe did a lot of leg work in his Fancypants to put together this series of interviews. Which makes it all the more of a shame that he didn't include any info about who he's interviewing, why it's interesting, or even what he wanted to accomplish. This post really needs a blog.

Villains that did nothing wrong

Villains in all media, not just video games, can end up being a dime a dozen. Far too often, a villain's motives boil down to "I am a bad, and so I do bad things. Fear me." While this format has worked for countless stories, at this point in my life (the ripe old age of 20) I’ve become jaded and grumpy, finding myself rolling my eyes when I see yet another antagonist wreaking havoc with no background or reasoning presented as to why they’re being such a butthole.

What’s far more interesting to me is when a villain’s motives or actions come across as justified, perhaps leaving you rooting for them to defeat the protagonist [insert Elder God Tier villain meme here].

My favorite example of this would be Meruem from the Chimera Ant arc of Hunter x Hunter. While he doesn’t necessarily fit the exact mold I laid out above, he’s easily one of the most dynamic and curious villains I’ve ever come across. For the sake of not spoiling what is perhaps one of the most exciting, action-packed, and tear-inducing arcs in anime history, I won’t delve into the details of what makes Meruem so great. Instead I encourage anyone who hasn’t seen Hunter x Hunter to set aside some time and plow through the series. Really, it’s that good.

But hey, that’s just how I feel. I’m sure there are folks out there who prefer their villains to be simple. If I ever met one of these theoretical people I might have a panic attack, but I’ll deal with that should the time come. I’m sure after some deep breaths we would get along. Maybe we could even snuggle, should my husband allow such an event to transpire.

All said and done, we arrive at the topic of this month’s Bloggers Wanted: Villains that did nothing wrong. Due to communication errors, this entry in the hallowed halls of Bloggers Wanted is a tad late. Regardless, all you have to do is head over to the Community Blog section of the site, and whip up a Cblog about a villain who you feel was secretly the good guy all along.
