LONG BLOG

C Blogs of 02/25/13 + mcgeeisms

It's good to be back after a week off. Thank you, Phil; you're doing too much. Rest, baby. In my down time, I floated around the internet, and somehow ended up on the Secret Moon Base podcast! It's already up on iTunes, so go subscribe, and listen to me corrode what is usually a good podcast.

I also got some gaming time in here and there. I played the shit out of the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate demo. Damn I love that game. I think MH Tri was one of the best games of this past gen, which I know some of you have heard before. Now y'all have another chance to enjoy it on 3DS or Wii U with a whole bunch of new stuff. Try out the demo, guys.
I also tried to make some progress in Assassin's Creed 3. I've been going through that one real slow-like. I have pretty mixed feelings about it. Sometimes, I think it's brilliant; sometimes I get bored, or confused. Luckily it feels really good to play. It keeps me going in spots. The naval missions have me coming back for more, too.

Most of the other stuff I want to discuss, I'm sort of trying to put into actual blogs, so It will stay somewhat brief today. I do find the reviews for Tomb Raider very interesting, as I've been pretty positive myself. I like what I heard from previews (pure evil) and they were seemingly spot-on. I had an interesting argument with my brother this morning, though, over the violence. It seemingly gets pretty gruesome in areas. I think it's fine, with the direction they went; being gritty and horrible and rough as shit. Lara takes it out on anyone in her way. He, like some others, thinks it seems a bit out of place and is just there for some extra shock. I look forward to playing, and judging it, myself, and seeing how it shapes up.

RAIDER CAPS

* - Wrenchfarm explains why that "Share" button on the Dualshock 4 makes so much sense.

A - bbain shares with us some of his favorite #PlaystationMemories. Good times, man.

A - The Dead Linger is a first-person zombie roguelike. That...sounds like major potential. nekoryu done showed up to tell us about it. Welcome him with questions & stuff.

A - coffeewithgames has some thoughts and questions about drones. Call of Duty drones, and real ones. What do you think about drones flying about & such?

C - PhilKenSebben is back with a very generous contest, giving out 10 copies of Bit.Trip Presents: Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien for steam. Go win one ASAP!!

T - Bespokemage has been playing Crysis 3 for a bit and gives us some impressions.

R - DanielCampbell gives us a video review of Hotline Miami in preperation for the PS3 & Vita releases.

D - poStudios won an award for their game Cognition! They got an Aggie for best music. What is all that stuff? Go read their blog, dingus.

R - Joe Odran Doran has a good Retrospective Review of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons. I like the idea of seeing how old games hold up, as opposed to just giving them a pass because it was fine "back in the day."

T - Nicky Austin shares his face, as well as his impressions on the PS4 announcements, and Sony's choppy-ass stream. I want to slap the shit out of him for putting his stylus in his mouth, but he earns a non-slap with his writing.

R - Ethan Christopher Clevenger has a review of sorts, and recounts breaking into a new genre with XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

C - This reads like pure copypasta.

F - Jailbreak

F - Brailjake

F - Kablejrake

Current "Bloggers Wanted" assignment
Changes

It feels like it's been a decade since we've seen the rise of the crowdfunded game. I'm always surprised when I remind myself that crowdfunding has been a thing long before the first crowdfunded video game, but nowadays a crowdfunded game seems like a dime a dozen.

Of course such a phrase is an incredible disservice to some of the great games that have come out thanks to websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Games like FTL, Shovel Knight, and even Undertale are around thanks to crowdfunding; thanks to people gathering around and literally putting their money where their mouth is, a game they want gets funded and inevitably the greater landscape of gaming benefits from it. Most of the time the landscape gets to benefit from it anyways.

Don't worry though, this month's bloggers wanted prompt isn't an exploratory thesis on the effects of crowdfunding on video game development. We just want you to talk about your favorite games, as long as they were crowdfunded. This topic can be simultaneously broad and narrow, because you can talk about whatever game you want, however you want, as long as it was crowdfunded.
For me, FTL is the original crowdfunded game, and it was great. It was somehow minimalist and incredibly detailed at the same time, and it was all done because a man wanted to do it, but needed the money, and thousands of other people wanted to see where his idea would go. Shovel Knight to me feels like this natural evolution of the classic 8-bit gaming of yore without also throwing myself back to a time when gaming was honestly comparatively archaic. And everyone's talked to death about Undertale, so we all know where I'd go with that.

To participate in this month's bloggers wanted, just start a blog! Oh, and title it "Crowdfunded: [your blog title here]." I bet this month is going to be pretty diverse, since it's basically writing about your favorite crowdfunded game. So I hope to hear about some good games revisited or amazing games no one has heard about.

Remember: Persona 5 was not crowdfunded, but excuse me as I plow through it.
