C-Blog Recaps for 7/14/13 + Jinxism

Shut up, it's my meme and I'm gettin' some mileage outta it!

So, yeah, Steam Trading Cards. Am I the only person leaving games on in the background just to get their card drops? Didn't think so. It's horribly addictive, Steam is becoming more and more a meta-game itself, though I guess some brilliant guy had seen it coming.

It's a great time to pick up normally overpriced DLC, like the minor Tomb Raider and Borderlands 2 stuff. Decided to rob that one last DLC tomb with Lara, while wearing her DLC vest... while waiting for trading card drops...

Of course, no DLC outfit can compete with one inspired by Jem & The Holograms. The pop-culture references just don't stop with Borderlands 2.

Just realized that I am basically playing with virtual Barbie dolls. But they have guns, so that makes them action figures and besides you play with fake trading cards so DON'T JUDGE ME!

So on to your Re-Faps. Uhhh I mean Re-Caps. Yeah.

BulletMagnet explores his huge backlog of RPGs in this long, possibly NSFW photo spectacular.I could only skim due to being in a public place atm,but if you like neckbeards, body hair, and classic RPG boxes you can't gowrong with this blog. (seriously, how can you NOT check it out after thatdescription?)

P - Scary Granules Podcast Episode 15: Attack of the Stevil! - They talk about video games. Because that is what they DO man.

You think sales and trading cards are bad? It could be worse...

S - Animal Crossing New Leaf - Alphadeus shows us the scary degree of his obsession with ACNL... but also offers some seriously generous help to other Dtoid players. If you play ACNL you should read this.

R - The Last of Us: TroyFullbuster discusses problems he had with The Last of Us, and why he feels it's been overrated.

T - Women and Gaming - Solid Boss makes some interesting bobservations about how women are used in promoting more than games. It raises some interesting questions, don't miss his discussion with Elsa in the comments.

$ - Far Cry 3 for $20 at Walmart - Agent9 lets us know that some Walmarts MAY have a great deal on this great game.

Yes that is a real thing that exists. I took the pic. The end of civilization nears.

R - Twinkies - Spieler Dad rejoices at the return of the Twinkie.

"What could possibly be less cool than socks and sandals?" "Challenge accepted."

Sorry for the late 'caps, a mix of trading card obsession and crippling depression conspired to make today not-so-productive.

Villains that did nothing wrong

Villains in all media, not just video games, can end up being a dime a dozen. Far too often, a villain's motives boil down to "I am a bad, and so I do bad things. Fear me." While this format has worked for countless stories, at this point in my life (the ripe old age of 20) I’ve become jaded and grumpy, finding myself rolling my eyes when I see yet another antagonist wreaking havoc with no background or reasoning presented as to why they’re being such a butthole.

What’s far more interesting to me is when a villain’s motives or actions come across as justified, perhaps leaving you rooting for them to defeat the protagonist [insert Elder God Tier villain meme here].

My favorite example of this would be Meruem from the Chimera Ant arc of Hunter x Hunter. While he doesn’t necessarily fit the exact mold I laid out above, he’s easily one of the most dynamic and curious villains I’ve ever come across. For the sake of not spoiling what is perhaps one of the most exciting, action-packed, and tear-inducing arcs in anime history, I won’t delve into the details of what makes Meruem so great. Instead I encourage anyone who hasn’t seen Hunter x Hunter to set aside some time and plow through the series. Really, it’s that good.

But hey, that’s just how I feel. I’m sure there are folks out there who prefer their villains to be simple. If I ever met one of these theoretical people I might have a panic attack, but I’ll deal with that should the time come. I’m sure after some deep breaths we would get along. Maybe we could even snuggle, should my husband allow such an event to transpire.

All said and done, we arrive at the topic of this month’s Bloggers Wanted: Villains that did nothing wrong. Due to communication errors, this entry in the hallowed halls of Bloggers Wanted is a tad late. Regardless, all you have to do is head over to the Community Blog section of the site, and whip up a Cblog about a villain who you feel was secretly the good guy all along.
