About Cblog Recaps

   0

Cblog Recaps is a community oriented service meant to help bloggers and readers sort through... Cblogs. Maybe you were away from Destructoid and just want to catch up, or you just wanted to see if you miss something, or you just wanted to read some random commentary.

The recaps are done daily (Or at least they're supposed to be). Recaps will usually go up 1-2 days after the day it covers and include everything after the last recap.

Additionally, sometimes there is random commentary about random crap. On these days, you will see a + [name]isms to the blog title.

Cblog Recaps has been continually evolving since its inception. It was first done by Cowzilla3, taken over by Coonskin05, revamped and taken over by ceark, and then passed along to a group of community volunteers.

This page is meant to serve as a guide on how to read the recaps.

Recap Guide

These are the recapper's personal picks of the day. This doesn't mean they're the best posts. In fact, some of them might be pretty bad posts. These are simply the posts that the recapper enjoyed the most this particular day, and their choice is merely personal opinion.

This the category for the writer-esque type posts.

A - Articles
These are the community articles of the day. Community articles are blog posts that reach a sizable length, and are written to a certain standard of organized thought and quality.

S - Series
These are serialized blog posts done by community members.

B - Bloggers Wanted
These are writings that fall under the Bloggers Wanted topics.

P - Podcasts
These are Podcasts done by the community.

This category obviously pertains to contests. This should be relatively self explantory. Community Contest rules will be linked on the Side Bar and remain there for the duration of the contest. If we're missing your contest, please let us know.

C - Community Contests
A new contest set up by a member of the community.

W - Winners/Updates
A winrar is you.

E - Entries
Self Explanatory.

Sometimes Dtoid does an official contest that floods the cblogs. In such cases, we'll come up with a tag for that contest's entries.

This section relates to things that are more community oriented.

E - Events
NARPS, Conventions, Whatnot.

F - Fight Nights
Organized Game Nights.

D - Destructoid in the Wild
Robot Sightings.

S - Stories
Stories from the Community.

C - Could Be Better
These posts don't fail. But they could use more effort.

? - Defies Description
I essentially don't have the slightest clue what any of these posts are about.

This is sorta the junk of the day. I'd like to note that this isn't an awful category to be in every once in awhile, so don't feel bad if you get Failed or Slowed. It's just a kind note of sorts. In an effort to remain mostly objective, I won't discriminate on who falls into here. If it's slow or it fails, that's that.

S - You Are Slow
Some one beat you to the punch, or old news/content that's not worth rehashing.

F - Maybe Fail?
Probably Fails. It's ok though, everyone fails at some point. Just try not to do it too often.

From time to time a wave of internet enthusiasm will wash over the site and many people will start making blogs centered around a particular theme. This doesn't happen very often, but when it does we'll collect them under the MemeToid banner.

There will be an additional link at the bottom labeled FPoTD. Feel free to ignore it, this stands for Final Post of the Day and is just there to tell the next recapper where to start.

We aren't perfect, and this process is not automated by any means. Occasionally we will miss a blog, or even an entire day if no one can cover for a regular. Please keep in mind this is a service provided for the community by a group of volunteers. If you'd like to know more about helping with CblogRecaps, please direct your questions to StriderHoang.

Current "Bloggers Wanted" assignment
Changes

It feels like it's been a decade since we've seen the rise of the crowdfunded game. I'm always surprised when I remind myself that crowdfunding has been a thing long before the first crowdfunded video game, but nowadays a crowdfunded game seems like a dime a dozen.

Of course such a phrase is an incredible disservice to some of the great games that have come out thanks to websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Games like FTL, Shovel Knight, and even Undertale are around thanks to crowdfunding; thanks to people gathering around and literally putting their money where their mouth is, a game they want gets funded and inevitably the greater landscape of gaming benefits from it. Most of the time the landscape gets to benefit from it anyways.

Don't worry though, this month's bloggers wanted prompt isn't an exploratory thesis on the effects of crowdfunding on video game development. We just want you to talk about your favorite games, as long as they were crowdfunded. This topic can be simultaneously broad and narrow, because you can talk about whatever game you want, however you want, as long as it was crowdfunded.
For me, FTL is the original crowdfunded game, and it was great. It was somehow minimalist and incredibly detailed at the same time, and it was all done because a man wanted to do it, but needed the money, and thousands of other people wanted to see where his idea would go. Shovel Knight to me feels like this natural evolution of the classic 8-bit gaming of yore without also throwing myself back to a time when gaming was honestly comparatively archaic. And everyone's talked to death about Undertale, so we all know where I'd go with that.

To participate in this month's bloggers wanted, just start a blog! Oh, and title it "Crowdfunded: [your blog title here]." I bet this month is going to be pretty diverse, since it's basically writing about your favorite crowdfunded game. So I hope to hear about some good games revisited or amazing games no one has heard about.

Remember: Persona 5 was not crowdfunded, but excuse me as I plow through it.
