My Top Five Anticipated Releases of August 2020

Three years. That’s how long I have been doing these monthly releases blogs. Starting back in August of 2017, I have been doing this blog every month for three years, and I don’t have any reason to stop. It’s weird to think I have done these lists through three (soon to be four) birthdays, three Christmases, and so on. So with all of that said, here is list 37, going over the releases of August 2020. But first, some rules.

The game has to be released on at least one major systems (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch). I do not count re-releases or remasters, but I may make an exception for remakes. One thing I do count is a game either entering or exiting early access, but that game can only be counted once. If a game does have multiple release dates like Destiny 2 or GTA 5, then I will only count the earliest release date. The exception to that is if the game has a pre-order bonus of entering the game early, in which I will count its normal release date. Finally, it has to be a game, not a DLC. With the rules out of the way, here are my top five anticipated titles of August.

5. Dreamscaper

Dreamscaper is a rogue-lite ARPG by Afterburner Studios about taking on the creatures residing in the protagonist’s dreams. For me, the thing that has interested me the most about this game is its various locales. Whether it be city streets, the woods, or even a dungeon, I found the premise of going to various locations while dreaming intriguing. On top of that, I think its combat looks like fun and its art style is neat. Dreamscaper will release on the 14th for PC.

4. Microsoft Flight Simulator

Asobo Studio’s newest game is Microsoft Flight Simulator, the newest flight simulator to hit store shelves. I’m not really into simulators, but I am interested in seeing how this game turns out because of the features this game is spouting. This simulator is going to simulate the entire Earth using Bing Maps, and it is using Microsoft Azure to cloud compute parts of the game. The whole thing is computing around two petabytes of data, which is unheard of for a game. Microsoft Flight Simulator will release for PC on the 18th and a later date for Xbox One.

3. Windbound

5 Lives Studios’ newest game is Windbound, an action adventure game about sailing the seas for survival. I first found out about this game at “E3” 2020, and I am surprised it’s coming out so soon. I think its mix of exploration and combat looks like a fun follow-up to Breath of the Wild, and I like the game’s art style and island setting. Winbound will release on the 28th for all four systems.

2. Risk of Rain 2

Risk of Rain 2 is the 3d sequel to Risk of Rain by Hopoo games about fighting monsters and progressing through runs. I have a few hours in the first game and only about an hour in the second from a free weekend, but I found Risk of Rain 2 to be surprisingly similar to the first game in its gameplay and feel, and I love the first game. Its combat is tight, its movement is fun, and I love the various abilities you can pick up in the game. Risk of Rain 2 will release out of early access on the 11th for PC and a later date for the three other platforms.

1. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is Mediatonic’s blend of battle royale and Wipeout that sees 60 players compete in various mini-games until only one is left. I lost interest in the battle royale genre quite some time ago, but Fall Guys has had my interest since day one. I love the idea of making a Wipeout style battle royale, and I have had a blast with what I have played so far. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout will release on the 4th for PS4 and PC.

That is going to wrap up this list. Thank you for reading, and tune in next month for another list of upcoming games.
