2D fighting game Blazblue is selling more copies on the PS3 than the Xbox 360. This has been undeniably proven by Amazon, where the game is currently selling much faster on Blu-ray than on your bog-standard, average, scummy Xbox DVD. The console wars are officially over, with PlayStation declared the winner. Microsoft is expected to hand Sony a gleaming winner’s trophy this Sunday evening in a grand coronation ceremony.

Sarcasm aside, a number of reasons have been put forth as to why Blazblue might be selling more on the PS3. The Xbox 360’s ridiculously Godawful D-Pad is one such explanation, as is Blazblue‘s implementation of PSP remote play on the PS3 version. It’s also been supposed that Blazblue‘s lack of a region lock might also be tempting.

The most interesting theory is one suggested by developer Aksys. The studio believes that many hardcore fighter players want to face off against Japanese rivals, and that most Japanese Blazblue players will be found on the PS3 and not the Xbox 360. It’s an intriguing idea, and given the obsessive and tenacious nature of hardcore fighter fans, it’s one that sounds incredibly plausible.

I’m no fighting game player, but I know if I was, I’d go for the one with more features and a non-sh*t D-pad. That would appear to be the PS3 version in this case.

Of course, Amazon isn’t a solid indicator of legitimate sales figures and is generally just used for petty points-scoring on the fanboy battlefield. With that in mind, my usual cadre of PS3-loving trolls who whine and moan about anti-Sony bias can feel free to knock themselves out over this particular “victory.”
