It’s been 15 years since we last saw Sparkster. The opossum left the kingdom he once protected (not by choice) and started a little family. The peace is broken one day by an army of invading wolves and Sparkster once again puts on the rocket suit to save his kingdom.

Most of the levels will see Sparkster going through stages in traditional platforming fashion hacking foes down with his sword. There will also be several levels where Sparkster will fly through the air in shoot ’em up style where he’ll be using a couple of different projectile attacks.

Playing through a couple of the stages really reminded me of the classic 16-bit era platformers. The game isn’t as easy as one would expect, which is a good thing in my book. The rocket gameplay is pretty solid and it was fun abusing the rocket pack through the stage I tried out.

Rocket Knight will be out on Steam, XBLA and PSN this May.
