Battlefield 3 will have its own social network

In Battlefield 3’s latest Battleblog it was revealed that the game will ship with its own social network. Players will be able talk to each other, share content, and look at game statistics from outside of the game. It’s called Battlelog, and it will include a Battlefeed so you can see Twee.. er, messages from your friends, and any achievements that they have unlocked.

If you’re offline and your friends need some help in a match, they can just message you on Battlelog. You can get these messages from your PC or mobile device, so you can then jump in and help them kick some butt!

The Battlelog will let you see detailed stats such as how many shots you’ve fired, how long you’ve played, your kill/death ratio, accuracy, and rank.

With all of the features that they are talking about, it sounds like you’ll be able to access the Battlelog from any console, your PC, or your phone.

Access to the Battlelog will be completely free, which contrasts Call of Duty: Elite’s premium service. I know that the Elite service offers some things for free, but it’s nice that the Battlelog is being offered completely free with no strings attached.

I’m all for increased social networking in multiplayer games, but I would be more excited to see Battlefield 3 offer interaction with existing social networks like Twitter, Facebook, and Google+, instead of trying to start a new thing just for Battlefield 3.
