In terms of word count, this isn’t the biggest change log, as that honor belongs to Patch 3. That doesn’t mean that you should sleep on Patch 8. After all, there are 12 new subclasses for players to explore. This will completely change how characters have worked previously, as all the subclasses have their unique abilities.

Let’s go through the list of all the major changes in Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 major changes

Here are all the major changes and highlights of the new patch.

  • 12 new subclasses
  • Photo Mode
  • Crossplay
  • Split Screen support for Xbox Series S

Subclasses

Patch 8 has 12 subclasses, with all of them offering unique features. The features will be unlocked at a specific subclass level. While they will work in the same fashion as normal classes, subclasses will allow players to have greater customization options. Here’s the full list of all the available subclasses in Patch 8.

  • Bard: College of Glamour
  • Barbarian: Path of Giants
  • Cleric: Death Domain
  • Druid: Circle of Stars
  • Paladin: Oath of the Crown
  • Fighter: Arcane Archer
  • Monk: Drunken Master
  • Ranger: Swarmkeeper
  • Rogue: Swashbuckler
  • Sorcerer: Shadow Magic
  • Warlock: Hexblade
  • Wizard: Bladesinging

Crossplay

This is perhaps one of the most important additions of Patch 8 since it will finally allow for co-op sessions with your friends on other platforms. Players on the same gen devices will be able to play with others on different platforms. This has been a much-requested feature, and I, for one, am glad that Larian has decided to include it in this patch.

The crossplay encompasses all available platforms, so players on PC, Xbox, PS5, and Mac will be able to take part in a shared session. Additionally, there’s also support for cross-platform progression, allowing you to carry your in-game progress from one source to another.

Photo Mode

Sometimes, you just want some high-quality screenshots to remember your journey. Sadly, the UI has been an iffy issue for me. The good news is that the Photo Mode is also part of the patch. While it doesn’t have any influence over gameplay, you can share your most interesting moments with the community. This was previously possible with mods on PC, but it’s far better to have the feature available officially.

Split Screen for Xbox Series S

Split-screen support is finally available for the Xbox Series S consoles. Larian has taken their due share of time on this feature, but they have finally delivered.

Thousands of changes

As usual, Larian has ensured a top-notch job for the final major content update of Baldur’s Gate 3. There are hundreds of tweaks, gameplay changes, optimizations, bug fixes, and more. To know more about them, make sure to check out the full patch notes.
