Anyone who thinks there aren’t enough space combat games in this day and age clearly has it out for the genre. Because really, there aren’t. Realizing this, Atari has teamed up with Incinerator Studios to bring back the Atari 2600 classic Star Raiders early next year.
Incinerator president Joel Goodman told GameSpot the team is “building on that great feeling that the original had of dogfighting in space, while adding another dimension through ship transformations.” They’re also keeping the galactic map and energy pool.
If they can make this new one half as cool as the Atari box art for Star Raiders, which can be seen here in full courtesy of Video Game Obsession, I’m totally in.
