Batman: Arkham Asylum director Sefton Hill says that taking “four, five, six henchman on” at a time won’t be trouble for someone as badass as the Caped Crusader. The challenge doesn’t come into play until you’re fighting 10+ enemies, each using weapons like machine guns, tasers, and pipes.
Unless you happen to be fighting someone named Killer Croc, in which case you should probably get your ass up to the elevated gargoyle statues, pronto. We are also told about how the “invisible predator” mechanic that lets Batman move around on the rafters unnoticed not only matches the character, but makes for good action/stealth gameplay.
It didn’t hit me until recently that the industry has never really produced a Batman videogame that was both fun to play and captured the essence of being such an iconic figure in a realistic way. This is probably due to most of Batman’s techniques being complicated to the point where it’d be too hard for a player to reproduce them.
I’m not saying Arkham Asylum will be able to pull it off, but it’s looking plausible. Hit the break for the behind-the-scenes video.
