Amazon looking to develop its own PC game

Please make a Tarzan game

Amazon has been trying to get a foot in the door for a while when it comes to gaming. Originally it was the move into digital distribution, then it was the the acquisition of Twitch.tv, and now it looks like it wants to develop its own games too.

This comes after a sponsored post on Gamasutra, asking for developers to work on its first PC game. Apparently, the team already involved has some pretty serious previous experience attached to it:

The team is made of former Portal, World of Warcraft and BioShock creators, and we’re building a team of top talent for an ambitious new PC game project using the latest technology. Our team in Seattle has worked on a lot of other great titles like Half Life 2, Left for Dead, Dota 2, Halo, Infamous, Shadows of Mordor and The Last of Us.

Looking at their quote, it can probably be read as "we hired a buttload of ex-Valve people somehow, and don’t know what to do with them just yet" because that is a good seven or eight years of Valve’s history listed there. I reckon they were left mewling in a cardboard box on Amazon's front step on a cold, rainy night.

We don’t know what they’re planning just yet, but it could be interesting to see what they come up with and how the game’s actually sold. Reassuringly, this probably suggests they're developing something for the core gamers out there rather than a big casual F2P-fest.
