Activision's not playing nice: Call of Duty blocked from PS4 Share Play

One big blocked scene

Activision's taking one of the most basic social skills that everyone learned in kindergarten and totally disregarding it. The publisher's using its biggest title of the year to be the first, and most prevalant, example of a company that bucks one of the gaming industry's newest trends.

As reported by GameSpotCall of Duty: Advanced Warfare has completely blocked PlayStation 4's Share Play option. Share Play is a system designed to allow a second user that doesn't own the game to remotely play the title for sixty minutes at a time. While it was previously implied that there'd be no workaround to entirely circumvent Share Play, Activision found a way.

Share Play gives developers the option of "censoring" sections of the game. This was included with cut scenes in mind, as a means to omit story spoilers for the second user. Activision took this liberally and simply censored the entirety of Advanced Warfare. Anyone attempting to utilize Share Play is permanently met with a greeting stating "The host's game screen is not displayed because the current scene is a blocked scene for Share Play. Wait until the blocked scene is finished."

Sony has since commented on the situation and clarified that not all developers are required to implement Share Play. In a statement, it said "Share Play is a system-level feature enabled by System Software Update 2.0 making it available for all PS4 titles, however the option is available to developers to disable the feature according to what they feel will best benefit the consumer experience."
