Review: Pokken Tournament DX

Pokkén Tournament was one of the more intriguing games on the Wii U. It combined a lot of things I love like fighting games, Pokémon, and anime avatars. But while it found some success with an audience in the center of a crazy...

Review: Mother!

Would you like to play a game? Well, it’s a puzzle really. It starts with Mother and Him. They are set in their home, and set upon by strangers. Only one at first, but then two, four, a grieving, boisterous entourage, a cult. All of c...

Review: ARK: Survival Evolved

Initially ARK: Survival Evolved didn’t leave much of an impression on me. Not only did I forget I actually owned the game, but that I had played it as well during early access at some point. It got lost among a sea of other games of i...

Review: American Assassin

There was a time back in the 90s and early 2000s when an American spy or hero or killer guy in a movie could go over to another country, kill all the terrorist bad guys, come back and the audience would think, "Yup, that was OK to do." But ...

One year later, ReCore's finally pretty good

Today, September 13, is the one-year anniversary of ReCore's release. In our review, I scored it a 4 out of 10, citing a ton of technical issues and a needlessly drawn-out end-game as factors that overshadowed how good the first two-thirds ...

Here's everything you missed in today's Nintendo Direct

Not five minutes into today's 45-minute Nintendo Direct presentation, I felt like I was drowning in bite-sized 3DS announcements and release-window confirmations for known entities. The company quickly covered a lot of ground before reachi...

Rocket League's Fall Update is going to be absolutely packed

When I met with with Rocket League creative director Corey Davis at PAX earlier this month to talk about the upcoming update, I knew it was going to be a big one. Developers rarely schedule appointments to talk about patches. It's too...

Review: Metroid: Samus Returns

I went into Metroid: Samus Returns with what can only be described as pure caution. With such a storied pedigree as a whole and given my personal history with the series, I wasn't sure that Nintendo and MercurySteam could pull it off. ...

Review: Destiny 2

Bungie kind of promised the world when it gave us the original Destiny. The hype was astronomical, and the first preview event didn't even have a playable build. What we actually ended up getting was a very strong shooter with a weak RPG ba...

Monolith says Shadow of War's end fight won't suck

Maybe the strongest praise for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor necessitates pointing out its most glaring flaw. The game was a darling, managing to please fans and earn critical acclaim. All of that in spite of the fact that the final b...

Review: Life is Strange: Before the Storm: Awake

Chloe Price isn't tough to role-play. Life is Strange's Max Caulfield felt like something of a blank slate. A thoughtful and mostly quiet young woman, malleable in how we wanted her to approach social interactions. There was a pressure to d...

Very Quick Tips for Destiny 2

Last night my Destiny 2 Warlock hit Power Level 268, and I finished the Nightfall -- so it's safe to say I've experienced much of what the game has to offer, and at this point, I've started to work on my second and third characters Her...

Review: It

Summer is over. We're entering the weekend past Labor Day. And yet, officially, technically (sorry everyone back in school), we've still got two more weeks. Lucky us. Lucky that now, when someone comes a knocking slinging nonsense like, "Th...

Review: Monster Hunter Stories

Monster Hunter is a beast of a series, enthralling millions worldwide with its promises of loot and adventure. Yet, it's always been a relatively walled garden for many, filled with time-consuming grinds and esoteric endgame rules. Capcom d...

Review: Knack II

I think if I had to pick one reaction to sum up my thoughts on the Knack franchise it would be "confusion." It's a feeling that is even more profound after playing Knack II.

Let's recap every project related to Final Fantasy XV

Square Enix practically bet the farm on Final Fantasy XV. Before its release they diversified their portfolio with a film and multiple spinoffs, most of which seem to have paid off given that it sold five million copies on launch day. But g...
