Review: Ion Fury

The retro FPS renaissance is in full swing as of late last year. With the release of DUSK, fans of labyrinthine designs and key hunting were treated to an evolution of a classic formula that paid homage to and improved upon its inspirations...

Here's a closer look at Wrath: Aeon of Ruin's PAX East demo

3D Realms has uploaded a 20-minute video for its upcoming first-person shooter Wrath: Aeon of Ruin. Based on the demo I played at PAX East, this walkthrough should show you exactly what I meant when I said Wrath feels more like Hexen and Tu...

Wrath: Aeon of Ruin is a great mixture of old and new

Before Wrath: Aeon of Ruin was announced, Destructoid's CJ had teased me by saying, "This game has you written all over it." I was very intrigued, but CJ is a man of his word and did not break embargo. Even when I was speculating about the ...

3D Realms is teasing a new game on the Quake engine

3D Realms is teasing a brand shooter built on the original Quake engine. Set to reveal tomorrow, the possibilities are endless for what this new game might be. It obviously isn't Quake 5, but there is a very real chance that it might be som...

Ion Maiden receives a new horror themed level today

Ion Maiden has received a brand new update today in the form of a horror-themed level. Called "Heskel's House of Horrors," this is actually the PAX West demo from this past weekend. It contains brand new weapons, new enemies and obviously a...

Ion Maiden's PAX demo has me psyched

Ion Maiden has been making waves as of late and for good reason. This is the game idiots like me have been clamoring for ever since Call of Duty skyrocketed into popularity and started becoming the template for a modern first-person shooter...

Review: Rad Rodgers

First impressions count for a lot in gaming. Sometimes a bad launch can tarnish an otherwise solid game from ever recovering, but there are some rare instances where a title gets a second shot. Rad Rodgers happens to be one such game. I rev...

Grab some wang (and Shadow Warrior) for free on Steam today

For one reason or another, the remake of Shadow Warrior is free on Steam today. Maybe this is to coincide with the release of some new content for Shadow Warrior 2, but either way, you can now experience some nice hard wang for the low...

Review: Rad Rodgers: World One

As I mentioned in my preview piece, Rad Rodgers: World One came out of nowhere. I was struck by the mind-blowing graphics and how 3D Realms was publishing a game from a relatively unknown developer. It looked like a throwback to Commander K...

Rad Rodgers: World One has sleeper-hit potential

Rad Rodgers: World One is a game that, quite literally, came out of nowhere for me. We got a message from the publisher, 3D Realms, and I was blown away by the trailer. I wasn’t so sure the game’s humor would work, but the amoun...

PC platformers and pixels of the past

If you grew up playing games in the late '80s or early '90s, you remember that Mario dominated the discussion on playgrounds and after school. By some estimates, Nintendo controlled up to 90% of the home console market, and it's no wonder t...

Review: Bombshell

"It's so hard to believe this is real. It's like a video game or something." A random soldier told me this in Bombshell and it's not the worst meta dialogue in the game. Shelly "Bombshell" Harrison is quick to complain about video game cont...

Duke Nukem 3D turns 20 today

Want to feel old? You'll never believe which 3D Realms game turns 20 today! Duke Nukem 3D was released on January 29, 1996, two decades ago. At the time it was not only a great shooter (my favorite by far), but it also sparked a ton of...

Bombshell from 3D Realms is out next week, costs $35

3D Realms reminded us yesterday that Bombshell is the first 3D Realms game to go gold in over a decade. While the jury is still out on this rather elusive title, I'm glad they're still around having grown up with their classics, b...
