Review: Kingsman: The Golden Circle

I think I open up every post I write about the original Kingsman movie like this, but what an effing surprise it was. In a rare occurrence I didn't catch the flick in theaters, and despite the positive reviews I still thought it looked...

First poster appears for Alicia Vikander's Tomb Raider

We're getting closer and closer to a time when we can all say we've seen a Tomb Raider movies without Angelina Jolie, and as such we now have a poster for that movie. As you can see in the poster this new film takes its cues from the r...

If you need to google a movie to understand it did it fail?

Darren Aronofsky's mother! released this weekend and it struggled pretty hard. That might be because the entire thing is a biblical allegory art house film that is somehow both complicated and blunt at the same time. People came out of...

Review: American Assassin

There was a time back in the 90s and early 2000s when an American spy or hero or killer guy in a movie could go over to another country, kill all the terrorist bad guys, come back and the audience would think, "Yup, that was OK to do." But ...

Our first look at the new Hellboy

Hellboy is coming back and from everything we know so far it's looking really dark, very bloody, and bit less campy than Guillermo Del Toro's take on the indie comic favorite. Also, no Ron Perlman, which is sad, but judging from this f...

So what did you do over Labor Day weekend?

Last week we were shocked to find out that the worst box office weekend in 16 years occurred. OK, not really shocked. There were no good movies opening and there was a natural disaster and a host of other issues. People were busy in general...

War for the Planet of the Apes is getting a big Oscar push

When the first Planet of the Apes prequels (they're prequels to the Heston originals, not remakes) landed there was a lot of buzz about Andy Serkis getting a Best Actor nomination for his motion capture role as Caesar. That didn't happ...

The worst movie weekend in 16 years just happened

The top ten films this weekend brought in $45 million. It took a terrorist attack on American soil in September of 2001 to create a box office lower than that, but Hollywood managed to do it this time by simply not releasing any interesting...

Can August be over yet?

The end of August sucks for movies. It's too late in summer for the studios to care anymore, and it's only on very rare occasions that some studio also-ran or indie gem surprises us. This August especially sucks, with not even one movie abl...

Review: The Hitman's Bodyguard

It's August, and that means we're entering the second span of doldrums for movie releases for the year (the first being the beginning of the year). From now until late September, when all of the horror films start rolling in, we get studio ...

Do you want more Conjuring/Annabelle movies?

I liked The Conjuring well enough, and I do find creepy dolls really creepy, but of all the horror franchises in existence to have a horror "universe" born out of it I would not for a moment have guessed it would be the one about a fru...

Review: The Dark Tower

If you've read Stephen King's prolific Dark Tower saga you know it's a weird, wonderful, flawed, brilliant, mess of an epic that touches so many genres it's hard to classify it at all. It bounces from western to science fiction to fant...

Who the hell paid for The Emoji Movie?

Guys, The Emoji Movie made $25.6 million this weekend. That puts it on track to easily eclipse its $50 million budget, and turn Sony a profit. That more than likely means there will be a sequel. There is a high chance that there will b...

Review: Atomic Blonde

Atomic Blonde looks like one of those scrappy little action flicks that has a slow burn of success. Think of things like John Wick or Taken. Films that succeed because they're cram full of action and their plots actually engage. I...

Do we really all hate franchises and sequels?

Here's a fun fact: Dunkirk is the first number one opening for a non-franchise movie of the summer. Every other weekend during this summer has been led by a movie that is either a sequel or part of a major franchise. We hear peopl...

Is Planet of the Apes the best modern trilogy?

With War for the Planet of the Apes opening at number one this weekend, toppling a insanely strong second showing from Spider-Man: Homecoming, we've been asking ourselves whether or not there's a better modern film trilogy ou...

Daniel Craig reportedly agrees to play Bond again

After Spectre came out Daniel Craig was not too kind to the chances of him ever playing Bond again. The role is an incredible amount of pressure and the shooting is often stressful so he had some choice words about retur...

Netflix's Castlevania series renewed for season 2

We're pretty used to movies getting sequels before they're even released (hell, some get them before they even begin shooting), but television has been slower to pick up on the trend. Probably because they want to avoid awkward situations l...

About Matthew Razakone of us since 2:04 PM on 04.03.2009

I've been here a while. In all likelihood longer than you.

I was here when the first cblog post went up, and before. I like to believe I rep Dtoid old school. I fell in love with this community the second the cblogs opened up and posted all that I could as Cowzilla3 (you may remember him as an angry banana).

Now I'm the big cheese at Flixist (and sometimes a Dtoid contributor). If you didn't know me before as Cowzilla3, then "Hi! I'm Matt Razak. Despite all my rage, I'm going to break my rusty cage and run." I feel I should put the customary Dtoid rocks things here, but you already know that. I'd put my regular posts up below, but I don't have any (yet). Needless to say, I love Destructoid and everyone here.

Big group hug.
