Review: The House with the Clock in Its Walls

You know what a lot of kids movies lack these days (I ask while waving my cane in the air at a cloud)? Charm. There's some amazing stuff going on for sure, but that certain "charming" characteristic is often missing. Maybe it's because chil...

Kevin Feige and Marvel will oversee the X-Men movies

I think we all knew this was coming, though I've got a strong argument for why it shouldn't, but Bob Iger, Disney's CEO, confirmed in an interview with THR that the X-Men will be housed under the Marvel umbrella once the Fox merger goes thr...

Star Wars is going to slow the hell down for a little bit

Every comment section.  Every single one. If the article is even tangentially related to Star Wars then the entire comment section turns into a debate on the franchise. The one thing that seems nearly unanimous in all these "...

Marvel's marvelous Captain Marvel trailer is a marvel

Well, Marvel waited. They held their cards to their chest and they didn't give us even a whiff of Captain Marvel until the first looks last week, but now it's here. The damn trailer for Captain Marvel has finally arrived and it's... w...

Neal Purvis and Robert Wade rehired for Bond screenplay

The next Bond film is floundering hard after Danny Boyle turned in a screenplay that the producers disliked so much he quit the production. And when you're scared and alone with no plan for the future what do you do? You return to something...

(Update) Henry Cavill quits Superman, leaves DCEU

[Update: Where is DC going to go from here? Deadline says that they don't really have any idea, which is why Supergirl is so important. They've tossed around future possible actors for Superman, including Michael B. Jordan (s...

Review: Peppermint

Peppermint looked so good on paper. The director of Taken returning to the revenge genre with Jennifer Garner doing her best Linda Hamilton and telling a bad guy she was going to shoot him in the face? That screams like something ...

Nothing opened this weekend so the same movies made money

No studio was interested in pulling in some extra cash as summer closed out over Labor Day weekend. Operation Finale and Kin were basically the biggest release this weekend, and Paramount didn't even give Kin much a chance wi...

Crazy Rich Asians is making WB (relatively) crazy rich

Sorry, I had to force that headline, but if I don't get to write terrible pun headlines what's the point of all this? It's a little true, too. While Crazy Rich Asians isn't pulling in Marvel money, its $25 million box office means that...

Review: The Happytime Murders

The term gimmick has a negative connotation, but it doesn't have to. Gimmicks can work. When a gimmick is implemented appropriately it turns into creativity and fresh ideas. The key to making a gimmick work, I would argue, is it can't ...

Danny Boyle exits Bond 25 over creative differences

It looked like the 007 franchise was going to hop from one fantastic director to another with Bond 25 as Sam Mendes moved on and Danny Boyle was set to tackle the next film, which will probably be Daniel Craig's last. However, it seems "cre...

Thankfully, the MGM Child's Play reboot is happening

It's very possible that you hadn't heard -- considering that Chucky isn't on very many people's daily radar and it's been delayed years -- that MGM is planning to reboot the Chucky franchise without creator Don Mancini and produce...

Star Trek: Discovery casts Ethan Peck as its Spock

If you watched all the way through Star Trek: Discovery you know that it ended on a cliffhanger that surprised, angered, and excited Trek fans. The show also heavily involved Spock's family, but no Spock. I'm going to talk about that e...

About Matthew Razakone of us since 2:04 PM on 04.03.2009

Matthew Razak is the Editor-in-Chief here at Flixist, meaning he gets to take credit for all this awesome even though its really the rest of the amazing staff that gets it done. He started as a community member back in the early days of Destructoid and bugged his way into writing for the site while being the Managing Editor over at That VideoGame Blog. He was also writing as a film critic for a local newspaper in the DC area and for Examiner.com. Finally after seven years of thinking silently to himself why the Modern Method network doesn't have a movie site he told Niero that we should start one. At the same time Fronz had been telling him to start a movie site too. The two of them teamed up with Niero's go ahead and now we have Flixist.

Matthew is totally open to any movie of any genre, but his wheelhouse is horror, action and James Bond. Doesn't sound too respectable but he's also got a fancy film degree from Vassar College and he's a member of the Washington Area Film Critics Society so that makes him semi-official in some capacity. He just really like movies and hopes that's enough to let you trust his opinion on them slightly.

He get asked these questions a lot when he tells people he writes for a movie blog, so:

Favorite movie: Evil Dead 2

Favorite franchise: Bond

OK, Favorite Bond movie: From Russia With Love

If you want to know the movies you have to see to get Flixist head here.

Currently backed upcoming crowdfunding projects:

Shenmue III
Xbox LIVE:Cowzilla3
Mii code:4283622287658660
