The first Incredibles 2 trailer is here

We've all had to wait wait a long time for this, but it's finally here. Incredibles 2 has a full trailer full of incredible sequel things. Well, mostly just parenting. Of course that's what made the The Incredibles so great; that...

Review: Black Panther

The fact of the matter is you don't see movies like Black Panther made. I'm not talking about the groundbreaking facts you already know about the movie: an almost entirely black cast, with an almost entirely black creative team leading, giv...

Zack Snyder may have actually been fired from Justice League

The DCEU just can't get out of its own damn way. You'd think the drama over Justice League would be over now that it's been released for months, but here it is again, being dragged, kicking and screaming, back out into the sunlight. Just le...

Young, white women, why do you love Fifty Shades?

Fifty Shades Freed smashed (relatively) the box office this weekend, propelling the franchise past a billion dollar box office. While the third installment saw a 17 percent drop off from the last film, and a 54 percent drop off from th...

Review: Peter Rabbit

Have you ever wanted to watch General Hux at his most detached strangle the life out of a realistic looking bunny while he curses him for driving him to murder? Or maybe you've had a desire to see a weird love triangle between a rabbit, a m...

Season 2 of Jessica Jones now has its first trailer

The first trailer for the second season of Jessica Jones sure looks like its jumping off from all the strong points of the first season. It's dark, moody, full of Jessica being a bad ass, psychologically challenging, and plays up the ...

Multiple Star Wars TV shows in the works

It was just yesterday that we got the news that the guys behind Game of Thrones would be making some Star Wars movies, but why stop there? Disney has announced that they have multiple Star Wars television shows in development for ...

Jumanji is now Dwayne Johnson's top grossing film

Raise your hand if you saw this one coming? Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is now Dwayne Johnson's biggest domestic box office success, and that means it's grossed more than any of his Fast and Furious films. It's just been a perf...

First Ant-Man and the Wasp trailer has a giant Pez dispenser

Ant-Man is easily Marvel's most underrated film. Not the Edgar Wright classic we were sure to get (still bitter), but people don't give it the props it deserved. The movie was a little heist film in the middle of a giant Marvel univer...

Are we done with the YA adaptation movies?

I don't have to write about Jumanji this week! Ever since Hunger Games tore through the box office every studio out there has been trying to make their own dystopian film series based off a young adult novel, and mostly they faile...

Review: Den of Thieves

We all know January sucks for the most part in terms of movie releases. Studios are either pushing their Oscar hopefuls out wide or dumping the things they couldn't release the rest of the year. It's a rare case when a January movies are ra...

Second trailer for Tomb Raider movie expands on the plot

When the first trailer for Tomb Raider hit I was, shall we say, less than enthusiastic about it. While the film does star the awesome Alicia Vikander it also looked kind of like a hot mess of scenes from the game clumsily stuck togeth...

As a dad I couldn't be more excited about Nintendo Labo

My son, Asher, was born almost three years ago on February 23, which happens to be my own birthday (send gifts). I've been waiting all these years to play video games with him. I mean, he can watch me play video games right now, and loves w...

Matthew Razak's personal picks for the best movies of 2017

[Ed. Note: We do awards a bit different at Flixist. Most of our writers do not get early screenings or award screeners of movies, which means it isn't easy to see some of the films that only get limited releases in December for many of us. ...

Is there anything you want to see before Black Panther?

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sure opened at the right time, huh? Its positive word of mouth and the complete lack of competition anywhere else has propelled it into a stellar box office. It pulled way ahead again this weekend, and do...

Mario movie possible by 2020, announcement might be soon

I'm still not quite sure what a Super Mario Bros. movie looks like, but in Nintendo's new quest to monetize its IP better we're definitely going to be getting one. The real question is when and what it will even look like. Can you imagine s...

How much do you love Dwayne Johnson?

Sorry for the lack of box office the past few weeks, but holidays and such. Anyway it pretty much was just Star Wars and Jumanji, and that'll continue for a bit because... well. Blockbuster holiday movies have strong holdover for ...

Here are your 2018 Golden Globe winners

Obviously this year's Golden Globes won't be remembered much for who won or lost. The dominate feature of the evening was the entire guest list wearing black for the night (not much a departure for the men) in solidarity with women, both in...

Mark Hamill regrets being honest because no one listens

Mark Hamill had an awesome press tour for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Why? Because he effing talked about making Star Wars: The Last Jedi honestly, which meant his struggles with taking Luke in a new direction. Of course "fans"...

About Matthew Razakone of us since 2:04 PM on 04.03.2009

Matthew Razak is the Editor-in-Chief here at Flixist, meaning he gets to take credit for all this awesome even though its really the rest of the amazing staff that gets it done. He started as a community member back in the early days of Destructoid and bugged his way into writing for the site while being the Managing Editor over at That VideoGame Blog. He was also writing as a film critic for a local newspaper in the DC area and for Examiner.com. Finally after seven years of thinking silently to himself why the Modern Method network doesn't have a movie site he told Niero that we should start one. At the same time Fronz had been telling him to start a movie site too. The two of them teamed up with Niero's go ahead and now we have Flixist.

Matthew is totally open to any movie of any genre, but his wheelhouse is horror, action and James Bond. Doesn't sound too respectable but he's also got a fancy film degree from Vassar College and he's a member of the Washington Area Film Critics Society so that makes him semi-official in some capacity. He just really like movies and hopes that's enough to let you trust his opinion on them slightly.

He get asked these questions a lot when he tells people he writes for a movie blog, so:

Favorite movie: Evil Dead 2

Favorite franchise: Bond

OK, Favorite Bond movie: From Russia With Love

If you want to know the movies you have to see to get Flixist head here.

Currently backed upcoming crowdfunding projects:

Shenmue III
Xbox LIVE:Cowzilla3
Mii code:4283622287658660
