Rumor: Jake Gyllenhaal wanted for Batman

(Note: I'm referring to Gyllenhal's creepy turn in the film Nightcrawler, not the X-Men character. I suppose explaining a joke means it's not a good one, but here we are.) It's been pretty clear that Ben Affleck hasn't been having as much f...

Review: Justice League

Warning: I'm going to discuss a thing that is obvious, but some may consider a spoiler so don't read if you've been in a cave for the entire marketing campaign of this movie.  Well they did it, folks. DC made two movies in a row that d...

First Rampage movie images punch their way into existence

The Rampage games were never anything that special. Basically the same thing level after level for more than 100 levels with slight variations as things progressed through the years. But they hold a special place in my heart because I ...

What non-blockbusters are you looking forward to?

Look, we pretty much know what the rest of the year looks like in terms of number one opening weekends. It's going to go like this including this week's number one: Thor > Justice League > Coco > Star Wars ...

Universal's Dark Universe has been mummified

Universal's Monster Universe, not-so-lovingly called the Dark Universe, has lost its captains and is on hold.  They had a plan. They really did. Universal didn't have any comic book properties, and they didn't want to risk spending a l...

Are Marvel movies really all the same?

Anyone want to take a wild guess at what movie won the box office this weekend? Anybody? Anybody? Bueller? Yea, it was Thor: Ragnarok by a long shot. In fact it made over $100 million more than the next movie on the list, A Bad Moms Ch...

What's your favorite horror franchise?

With Halloween just two days away, a dismal box office, and Jigsaw hitting the number one spot this weekend (in a most unimpressive manner), seems like the perfect time to ask everyone what their favorite horror franchise was. So ...

Have you ever seen a Madea movie?

I have been professionally film-criticking for more than 10 years. I see almost every movie that gets released in theaters at one point or another, but, for better or worse, I have never seen a Madea film. Part of this is by choice, but a l...

Should there be a third Blade Runner?

Usually I try to leave these things open for debate for at least a sentence or two before giving my opinion, but there's clearly a right answer here. While Blade Runner 2049 is probably the best result to come out of a needless sequel ...

Review: Blade Runner 2049

Denis Villeneuve has done the impossible. He has pulled off a feat that most directors won't even take a stab at. He has delivered unto us something we haven't seen for years. With this act Villeneuve has firmly established himself as one o...

Review: Cult of Chucky

You may not know this, but Chucky, the red headed doll inhabited by a serial killer's soul thanks to some magic, had a bit of a comeback a few years ago with the straight to video release of Curse of Chucky. Believe it or not, after a strin...

Sonic the Hedgehog movie now at Paramount

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie is moving studios. Deadpool director Tim Miller was going to produce with his pal Jeff Fowler directing and Sony had the rights to make it, but they put the project on hold and...

Is there any actor that you'll show up to the theater for?

Time was if you shoved Tom Cruise into a movie and emblazoned all the marketing with his name bigger than the name of the movie you'd pretty much have a guaranteed number one opening weekend, and most likely a box office hit. That time has ...

Review: American Made

At this point there's an entire adult generation who thinks of Contra as a retro video game first and a group of right wing militants backed by the US government second. That simple fact might lead you to be surprised that the CIA, White Ho...

Underworld franchise is moving to television

Like some sort of early 2000s zombie that just won't die the Underworld franchise is making a move to television with creator Len Wiseman bringing the show to the small screen. The director/writer/producer and his production compa...

Review: Kingsman: The Golden Circle

I think I open up every post I write about the original Kingsman movie like this, but what an effing surprise it was. In a rare occurrence I didn't catch the flick in theaters, and despite the positive reviews I still thought it looked...

First poster appears for Alicia Vikander's Tomb Raider

We're getting closer and closer to a time when we can all say we've seen a Tomb Raider movies without Angelina Jolie, and as such we now have a poster for that movie. As you can see in the poster this new film takes its cues from the r...

If you need to google a movie to understand it did it fail?

Darren Aronofsky's mother! released this weekend and it struggled pretty hard. That might be because the entire thing is a biblical allegory art house film that is somehow both complicated and blunt at the same time. People came out of...

Review: American Assassin

There was a time back in the 90s and early 2000s when an American spy or hero or killer guy in a movie could go over to another country, kill all the terrorist bad guys, come back and the audience would think, "Yup, that was OK to do." But ...

Our first look at the new Hellboy

Hellboy is coming back and from everything we know so far it's looking really dark, very bloody, and bit less campy than Guillermo Del Toro's take on the indie comic favorite. Also, no Ron Perlman, which is sad, but judging from this f...

So what did you do over Labor Day weekend?

Last week we were shocked to find out that the worst box office weekend in 16 years occurred. OK, not really shocked. There were no good movies opening and there was a natural disaster and a host of other issues. People were busy in general...

About Matthew Razakone of us since 2:04 PM on 04.03.2009

I've been here a while. In all likelihood longer than you.

I was here when the first cblog post went up, and before. I like to believe I rep Dtoid old school. I fell in love with this community the second the cblogs opened up and posted all that I could as Cowzilla3 (you may remember him as an angry banana).

Now I'm the big cheese at Flixist (and sometimes a Dtoid contributor). If you didn't know me before as Cowzilla3, then "Hi! I'm Matt Razak. Despite all my rage, I'm going to break my rusty cage and run." I feel I should put the customary Dtoid rocks things here, but you already know that. I'd put my regular posts up below, but I don't have any (yet). Needless to say, I love Destructoid and everyone here.

Big group hug.
