In a recent statement issued by the 7-Eleven category manager for gaming and electronics, it was confirmed that the company would continue to sell games “year-round” and would commit to offering “value-priced” videogames and DVDs. 7-Eleven will also continue to sell rancid hotdogs, Slurpees, and gasoline.
Recently, 7-Eleven made a splash with their new games line-up because of an inability to understand street dates. Games like Gears of War 2 and World of Warcraft expansion Wrath of the Lich King have, in some cases, been sold at 7-Elevens days before they have been available at retail outlets like GameStop.
Along with the new commitment to providing games, 7-Eleven confirmed some new titles that they will be carrying. Guitar Hero World Tour (bundle), Fallout 3, Quantum of Solace, WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009, and Call of Duty: World at War will all be available at your local store fairly soon.
I’m a little lost on this concept, but is there any reason to hit up 7-Eleven for a new game unless they’re selling it early? I assume once they really start selling products on a weekly basis, publishers are going to start watching this trend and put the brakes on the hiccups. What do you guys think?
