343 delays Halo Infinite campaign co-op

Halo Infinite campaign co-op

No longer due in May

Halo Infinite campaign co-op was hit with another delay, as it’s not making the original projected window of May 2022.

The news dropped on the official Halo Waypoint blog, and as usual, the team was incredibly transparent on the process, noting:

“The reality is that it’s going to take more time to land a high-quality, full-featured 4-player network co-op experience in the massive, wide-open world of Halo Infinite. We’re also committed to a great 2-player split-screen co-op experience on all Xbox consoles, from the original Xbox One through Xbox Series X—and the non-linear, wide-open sections of the Campaign present some big challenges for split-screen that have taken us more time to solve. All this means that we will not be able to ship Campaign network co-op on May 3rd, at the start of Season 2. But we are still aiming to deliver Campaign network co-op later in Season 2, and we will share a release date for that and for split-screen co-op as soon as we can.”

So originally, co-op was going to come with Season 2, following an extended and lengthy Season 1: which eventually got an end date of May 3. But now plans have changed, and it’ll arrive “later in Season 2.” There’s no window even for that, and another delay is possible, but for now the team seems confident they can ship it by then.

Apparently, 343 Industries is actually working on Season 3 right now, which will also arrive with the Forge system. So we have two prospective dates! The good news is if you were holding out, by the time Season 3 rolls around, Halo Infinite will be super easy to jump into with friends via Game Pass, and will be effectively feature-complete.
