These days all the major gaming events are going out of their way to talk about how much bigger and better they are than the other. E3 is kind of on their own during the early summer, so I feel like they just kind of sit back and brag. But it seems that Europe’s gamescom is at the throat of Asia’s Tokyo Game Show. Both are huge and both are about a month apart. That’s why we keep seeing these number drops. Here’s gamescom’s latest:

They expect 480 exhibitors, which is up from last year’s 458. Keep in mind that gamescom 2009 was the biggest show ever held for videogames. Ever!

The event in Germany has 200 foreign companies coming to do their thing and show off their wares. That number is up 8.3 percent.

The folks at gamescom say that there are 200 European and German product premieres slated for the event.

Yes, it’s a big show. But it’s also the main show for all the countries of Europe. It’s their thing, so it’s going to be big. I still feel like E3 is our “thing,” and TGS is the world’s thing. Everyone shows up for TGS, except Nintendo. Almost everyone does for E3. Sega and Capcom are not showing up for gamescom this year.
