I'm a young gamer, age fifteen. The first Mega Man game I ever played was the ill-fated Mega Man 8. All I remember were the stages that kicked my eight year old ass, the ones involving the poorly done jump/slide while you careen down a tunnel at high speeds towards spikes segments. In the end these segments just frustrated me into breaking my Playstation controller by throwing it at the wall.
The last few weeks I've been going through all of the RetroforceGO!
archived episodes that I missed, and this morning I came across their all things Mega Man episode
. It motivated me to not download Mega Man 2 to my not emulator and play it with my gamepad. After a day of amazing 8-bit tunes, graphical flicker, and old-school glory I finished it triumphantly.
It is one of the most amazing games I have ever played. Even though it had obvious limitations due to the hardware the developers always managed to find a way around them. The music was fantastic despite the NES's sound chip, the graphics were fluent despite the lack of colors, and the bosses were (I thought) brilliant. They were certainly much better than an Adam'ed up Fontaine at the end of Bioshock. Spoiler alert.
Anyway, I'm now supremely psyched up for Mega Man 9 and I finally understand what all the hype is about. Thanks for reading my blurb :).
