Over my lifetime of gaming I have participated in many MMORPGS: Ultima Online, Everquest, City of Heroes, Lineage 2, and WoW. After playing all of these MMORPGs one tends to grind themselves out (if you're like me at least) and the simple thought of hunting said monster for said loot so you can complete quest over and over just makes you sick to your stomach. I don't think I will ever play a MMORPG again.
I thought that until I heard about Champions Online
Champions Online is being made by Cryptic, who also was responsible for City of Heroes, and just like City of Heroes it is going to be a Super Hero MMORPG. Actually, the game is based off of a Table Top RPG game which boasted a robust create a character and according to Cryptic the online game will contain just as much customization.
From what I have read the game will have just as much character customization as City of Heroes but with some extra bonuses. For example, you not only get to pick your powers, but you get to customize the powers animations and its damage and effects (to a certain extent of course).
Reading this I thought that this game could be everything that I wanted from City of Heroes but was deprived of. To me, City of Heroes was a great game but it fell into the clutches of the "one power set is the right set" villain of MMORPGs. With the ability to totally customize your powers to how you see fit it not only lets you create a more unique hero but also one to different in power and gameplay too.
Game is expected to come out in 2009 for PC and Xbox360.
