This past weekend I saw The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters
on DVD, a documentary about the world of competitive Donkey Kong playing. I already saw this in the theatre last September, but it was just as good the second time at portraying the epic battle for digital supremacy between chemistry teacher Steve Wiebe and professional asshole Billy Mitchell.
One thing I've noticed both times about this movie is how even non-gamers can get into it. In the theater, there was a couple in their seventies who who clapping for Wiebe to crack Mitchell's high score. On DVD, not even 5 minutes passed by before Billy Mitchell pops up. My girlfriend cried out, "I hate him. I hate his hair!"
I don't want to say more since it's not worth spoiling what happens in it, but suffice to say if you enjoy video games at all, please rent or buy this on DVD.
