90s Gaming Blunder Part 2: The Super Gameboy

How on earth did I trick myself into buying this one? I am not sure but maybe my teenage mind at the time couldn't process that just because color was being added didn't mean it would make anything better.

But it didn't matter, I was excited to see my classic gameboy games in color and I was willing to drop $60 on seeing that happen. What I got instead was just disappointing. Of course the color scheme wouldn't be how you would expect, I should have known that. But what I didn't know or fail to realize was how the sizing on your TV screen would mess up the resolution. So instead of a somewhat crisp Samus Aran sprite in Metroid 2, you get a blown up ugly pixelated Samus who is oddly colored.

Ok so it wasn't that ugly but still not as smooth as it would be on the Gameboy. The Super Gameboy had other features though. You could draw your own borders, or pick from some template borders. Fun right? You could also alter the color palette to alter the color within the game.

It also had some nifty abilities for certain games. Killer Instinct, for instance, could allow a second player to play just by using the second player controller on the SNES. No multiple cart needed. But really, if you had a SNES why wouldn't you get killer instinct for Gameboy? In fact, why would you get any fighting game for gameboy? Other features like added sounds and default color palettes were also extra "features" with the Super Gameboy.

All that for $60? Man was I a dumb kid.

Now with epic beard...

Who am I?

A gamer from the South Side of Chicago. Currently going to college for a Computer Science degree and looking into a course for C# certification so I can become a business applications programmer (gaming programming just isn't worth it).

What do I do?

Play games, play sports (european and american football), read a lot, go to the pub (need a new one, got banned from my old one), program crappy little applications, and so on.

Games I am currently playing...

Warcraft 3 mod Defense of the Ancients (DOTA)
Team Fortress 2
Super Mario Galaxy
Titan Quest: Immortal Throne
Dynasty Warriors 6
No More Heroes
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin

Looking Forward to
Next Pro Evolution Soccer
Smash Bros Brawl
Fallout 3 (sort of)
Left 4 Dead
