With the exception of the obvious greats, Zelda,Mario, the Final Fantasy series etc... i got to thinking games which feature original scores that really added to the game experience stuck with me long after switching off the console. One such game recently came to mind, and while it hasn't got a all round great reception (shunned in particular by a monocle-sporting writer on this website *nudge* *nudge*) i felt that the music that accompanied Mass Effect was amazing.
The synth elements layered over a traditional, orchestral score just floored me in parts, so much so i actually purchased the soundtrack online. Trust me a rarity in my music collection.
Even if you haven't played the game or didn't like its story/gameplay id be interested to hear peoples opinions on its musical aspects on it:
Feel free to mention any other games worthy of praise or games which music detracted the overall gaming experience, and may i also add Bioshock to the list also...Jaw-Dropping and Terrifying.
Personally i think its a part of gaming thats often forgotten about, and like the innovations in graphics and gameplay i feel the music accompanying games today are on par and often exceed the best tv/cinema have to offer today...
God i never get tired of using that photo...
