I was checking out GameFAQs earlier (don't judge me) and this post about the DLC for 2/5/08 caught my eye. It wasn't a speculation post, it was some guy listing three songs (and their master/cover status) that would be released on that day. Of course, he didn't give out any sources to back up his info.
I know that the chances of any of this being true is slim to none, but I just found this "announcement" to be interesting. He even added more as the post went on. The guy posting them, sergeXzero07, seems pretty sure of himself. He's got a few exact dates for songs and even a date for the first DLC album and pricing. He's also been a member of the site for over five years, so it's not like he just made a new account for this.
Again, the chances of all this being bullshit is very high, but I still thought it might be interesting to hang onto this information and see if any of it comes true in the near future. Normally I'd just pass over something like this, but some of this stuff would be awesome if it were actually coming to Rock Band. I mean seriously, Live and Learn by Crush 40?!
EDIT: Yep, he just gave away his master plan just like any respectable evil genius would.
That is why I made this topic: To teach people that no matter how good it sounds, there is a very low chance that the DLC information will leak outside of the rare chance it stems from official channels (such as what happened recently with Xbox.com). Never believe these people, ever.
Why would I do this?
Because every single Monday, a few hours before the DLC comes out/is announced, people begin making these false claims that ultimately get at least one fan of a band excited... only to be disappointed at the outcome. That's why I made this thread. I wasn't going to post the truth until we got 100 posts, but this is it and I need to get some sleep.
The key to the topic was to never mention any personal details. That way, my credibility could not truly be proven either way until I had specified in favor of either direction. Some people denied it from the beginning, and some believed as I went on. The latter is who I wanted to train against this sort of fraud.
Please don't believe anyone who claims they have "inside" information (like their girlfriend working at Xbox Live). They are lying to you and will not admit it until it's too late. That, among other things, is why I only used dates far ahead of time--not to let this topic go on forever, but to make you believe I wasn't looking for instant fame. Expanding on release dates and ideas was just the next step in winning people over. The reason I never mentioned any "sources" or proclaiming I was the source is what I stated above: There's no reason to. If I never give any personal details, my credibility stays in flux.
So, yes, everything in this topic was created by me. None of this information is true, at all, in any capacity. If you believed me, you'll now know not to ever believe the others, as they (if I may say so) are far less believable even at the onset.
