We hardly knew ye...
After 10 years, 200 episodes, cancellation by 2 networks, a movie version, and an entire cast change, you'd think the people who created Mystery Science Theater 3000 would be done with the whole affair.
This is what we call a Robot Roll Call, folks.
Well, apparently not.
The original cast of Mystery Science Theater 3000 have reunited under the new moniker of Cinematic Titanic.
Their goal, to watch shitty movies and make fun of them.
The cast is made up of original MST3K cast members and MST3K Season 3+ writer Mary Jo Pehl.
So, this creation is a bit different than MST3K in execution. And it's different from Mike Nelson's project "Riff Trax".
This is a full on effort to have a recreation of MST3K with a movie as possible. The 6 cast members sit on the sides of the screen in a style similar to tiered stadium theater seating.
This allows for a major difference between MST3K and this project as it allows them to attempt to be more interactive with the movie in making jokes.
If you watch their trailer for their first DVD, "The Oozing Skull" you'll see that it's very different, yet very similar.
Considering that the entire cast of MST3K contributed to the writing of jokes during the movies they watched in the 90's, the joke selection and style of humor will seem all too familiar and comforting. Just getting used to hearing The Mads during a movie, well, that's definitely new.
Here's the trailer for their first episode.
And a link to purchase the DVD.
If you've been a fan of MST3K over the years with downloaded videos, you know what you're going to get with this purchase, and I for one, welcome back Joel and the others back to my living room.
