Phils Game/Pop Music Similarities #114 - Kiss Me Deatheggly

Featuring Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Lita Ford and more.

Greetings fellow game music lovers,

with one day late I decided to bring a Sega entry today: The ending theme from the second entry of the classic Sonic series form 1992, more specifically a certain sequence from it:

Yes, I know about the connection to Dreams Come True's "Sweet Dream" from 1992/94. Nevertheless, since I felt I had heard similar stuff before I wondered if I could do better.

I think that this original may have originated from the 70s/80s post-punk scene. Some examples:

Heavy Metal artist Lita Ford's "Kiss Me Deadly" from 1988:

Or the song "Oliver's Army" by Elvis Costello from 1979:

Honorable mentions:

Morrissey - The National Front disco (1992):

Nena - Nur geträumt (1983):

I need some vacation soon...

Phil out.

Update 20/11/2020: A challenger has appeared: "This Can't be Love" from Rodgers "The boys from Syracuse" musical (1938):

Update 12/12/2020:

Pretty Little Pettycoat by Raymond Scott from 1940:
