Phils Game/Pop Music Similarities #97 - Penguin Cub Mortuary

Featuring Super Mario 64 and Country Music.

Dear fellow game music lovers,

as a quasi continuation of the Super Mario World main theme this week is now the same for the Super Mario 64 (1996) incarnation which also comes down to a certain sequence of notes that gets remixed for several levels of the game in different styles. It can be heard clearest in the first level, the Bob-Omb Battlefield:

Again, I have the impression that Kondo has taken a big gulp from Miyamotos bluegrass collection as I found several country rock artists from the 70s and 80s that have note sequence that are pretty reminiscent of said theme.

Kenny Rogers - Makes Me Wonder If I Ever Said Goodbye (1981):

Pure Prairie Leagure - Gimmie Another Chance (1976):

Ry Cooder - Taxes on the Farmer Feeds Us All (1972):

As a honorable mention for the Snow Mountain (national sport: penguin tossing) variant

Elyse Weinberg - Mortuary Bound (1968):

On the weekend, we have a rather large article featuring Mega Man X.

Phil out.
