Here I am, an aide for my english teacher.
He is teaching a college compostion class at the moment.
His classes can be incredibly boring...but they can also be incredibly NOT boring.
His redeeming quality is being a hardcore nerd. This guy is into comic books, medieval culture, ebay, digg, and of course video games. And trust me, I would not even imagine being his aide if he wasn't the way he is. Overall, he is a very nice man, approaching middle-age with a very solid and happy family life. He is an incredibly eccentric teacher and likes to include allll formats of media into his classroom.
Watching classic Twilight Zone or Alfred Hitchcock episodes and doing various activities relating to english with them.
Watching various movies, some violent, some very cult classic, and some very indie then doing various english activities based on them as well.
But...my favorite thing about his class...is when he pops out the Wii and we all get crazy on Guitar Hero, WarioWare, SMGalaxy, Wii Sports, or some of the good old classics. He's even talking about buying a 360 and bringing it in to play.
Of course we have to write about it afterwards, but its always worth it.
Its because of this man that gaming as a whole has become a lot less about being nerdy, and more about being a legitimate activity for FUN.
Everyone talks about them now...jocks, preps, nerds(duh), everyone accepts games! I'm never afraid to talk out loud to my buddy about kicking some ass on COD4, or how god damn frustrating Viewtiful Joe is making me.
I guess what I'm trying to really say is (and this doesn't apply to everyone)...
DON'T BE AFRAID TO BE A GAMER!
If you let everyone know, then you might find some unexpected friends...I gained a couple gamertags after the whole "coming out" thing... LOLZ GAY JOKE.
Also, you can use them to borrow games you would otherwise be too poor to afford.
It may be heartless, but its also smart. :)
