Greetings fellow game music lovers,
with the days getting shorter again the heart is once again drawn to the classics that formed our childhood. And there is little more classic than a session of Donkey Kong (1981), the game that ensured Nintendos breakthrough as an arcade manufacturer in the US market and started one of the greatest gaming franchises of all time. The theme of the first stage has a reminiscent 5-note jingle that everyone trying to beat the highscore (or get to the top at least once) has memorized to their heart:
I would like to go a little bit further than that: In the fifties, the Doo Wop group "The Jay Hawks" released a song with the appropriate title "Stranded In The Jungle" which became a hit almost instantly and was covered by numerous other groups at the time, the most successful being The Cadets with their 1956 version:
The jingle quickly became a Doo Wop standard and was used in numerous songs of the time, like the Kingston Trio's version of the traditional song Sloop John B (1958):
