C-Blog Recap 12/9 to 12/15 + 2019isms

Happy Decemberween, everybloody!

I know it’s a bit premature to be talking about end-of-year stuffs, but it’s been a long one. I’m not even talking about all the stuff that’s been going on in the news and online. Personally, it’s been paradoxically an incredibly long year for me while I simultaneously lose track of time more and more. MAGFest is in two weeks as of writing and I haven’t even prepared anything for it!

There were some good games this year, I guess? Haven’t played most of them. I only have a Switch, my 4-year old gaming PC, dwindling amounts of disposable income and an insane backlog. Plus, the gaming industry is trying its damnest to kill any joy I had in video games with more monetization bullshit.

What games can I remember from this year? Pokemon: Let’s Go Eevee and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are obvious ones. Oh, and Deltarune! That was a great time! And…and Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon! Ah, that was fun! I’ll have to do a second playthrough, someday. Um…Timespinner is neat, but I haven’t finished it yet.

Also, Icons: Combat Arena…happened.

Look, I don’t have a list of games I’m anticipating for next year. I just want 2019 to be the year where I can enjoy video games again. Kingdom Hearts III is coming out next month, which will likely convince me to get a PS4, despite knowing better. It’s one of those games that we should have more of. No microtransactions, no season passes, no content carved out of the game and sold back to us as DLC. Just a fun video game that brings me nothing but joy. It’s…nice to look forward to a game in one of your favorite franchises without expecting the publisher to butcher it, for once.

Okay, I’m done rambling. Here’s what you all wrote for that week.

* - Free Story DLC is quite excited about The Outer Worlds and its potential for shaping its entire economy, amongst other things. Stick it to the man!

* - As the world inexorably turns, we continue our march towards the inevitable end of our lives. Also, Jonathan Holmes is now officially 42.

P - Episode 93 of PSToid talks about all things PlayStation, including the newly-released/hackable PlayStation classic and Sony deciding to skip E3.

A - With Kingdom Hearts III coming in a month from now, monsoongaming answers some common questions about the series for anyone who hasn’t experienced Kingdom Hearts yet.

S - Christmas can mean a lot of things for a lot of people. For some, it’s about spending time with your loved ones. For Boxed Swine, it’s about yelling the word cuck at total strangers on Xbox Live.

R - Kerrik52 talks about indie darling Hyper Light Drifter in this week’s Travelers in Playtime.

T - With the new year fast approaching, we all have hopes and dreams for the future. Boxedpresentsman214 shares his 10 biggest things he wants to see in 2019.

T - Meanwhile, TheLimoMaker has his own list of games he’s looking forward to. His picks skew more towards indie game releases than what’s coming from the AAA space.

T - Dango’s got his own GotY picks for some of the best gaming experiences in 2018, too!

R - Rudorlf reviews Scarface: The World is Yours for the PC. Be aware that the review does talk about spoilers to the movie, just in case you haven’t seen it yet for some reason.

R - Spazzzh20 reviews Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, covering all aspects of what made the original great. He even defends the loot boxes, which is...pretty ballsy of him.

T - Spazzzh20 also has a list of his top 10 favorite FPS games. Spoiler alert, none of them are older than 1997.

R - Finally, Spazzzh20 reviews Wolfenstien: The New Order, seemingly not as over the moon with it as others.

R - joebjoe reviews Santa Claus Junior, a very Christmasy game for the Game Boy Color. Apparently, the game was only released in the PAL territories.

A - Virtua Fighter was very influential in the evolution of fighting games. As such, it’s no surprise that there are references to it everywhere. Virtual Kazama goes over all the times that the game has been referenced in other games and pop culture.

F - Boxedpresentsman214 has another Doctor Who episode review this week. This time, it’s for The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos.

V - Are you still stuck on World of Light in the new Superb Smashing Boys? Worry not! TroyFullbuster made a few video guides with some tricks he uses to get through some of the tougher parts of the game.

L - Nah.

S - Once again, stuff like this shouldn’t be a C-Blog. If you wanna make quick shitposts like this, take it to Q-Posts.

F - Also this.

There were quite a bunch of blogs for me to recap this week! If you'd be interested in helping us out, let us know in either the comments below! We'd really appreciate your help.

Have a wonderful Decemberween, everyone!
