Cblogs of 2/18/18 & 2/19/18 + Why DeadMoon loves Shimoneta

It’s been a goddamn minute since I’ve written a Cblog Recap, but I’m here pumping out some words about stuff and things.

Up on today’s docket is, the anime, Shimoneta. Assuming you aren’t a total prude who is averse to anything regarding fan service, this show is essential fucking viewing. Seriously, I have not been this enamored with a series since One Punch Man, and this doesn’t even have a bald protagonist to tip the scales!

First off, it’s hilarious. It takes the premise of a world that has outlawed everything lewd and milks it for everything it’s worth. Japan is now known for attaining the status of “the nation with the most pristine public morals in the world.” Clearly, this society, mixed with a bunch of perverts looking to sex up the place, is absolutely ripe for comedy gold.

On top of that, the story is genuinely enthralling as well. Just when you think you know how things are going to pan out, it slyly throws you another curve ball. Practically everyone in this series is a total hornball, and it warms my heart (and genitals) in a way that I’ve never quite experienced before.

The thing is, much like Kill La Kill, it uses its fan service elements to strengthen the core themes of the story. It’s not just there for the sake of jerking off. There is, legitimately, a point that it’s trying to make. On the other hand, this series is all about “fun.” It never takes itself too seriously, and it works that much better because of it.

In the first episode, one of the main characters stands on top of a train station’s roof, with underwear stretched across their face, screaming classy things like “Big dick!”, “Penis!”, and “A penis pounding a pussy!” Then she throws a bunch of pornographic cards into the crowd and runs away.

It’s fucking beautiful.

Also, it made me laugh a whole bunch.

An extremely handsome Destructoid user, DeScruff, recently introduced me to this magical show, and I could not be happier. It’s now one of my top ten favorite anime of all time. It’s simultaneously unafraid to make you think about what constitutes “decency,” and it also makes a hell of an argument for why sexy stuff is awesome in the first place. It certainly may be a bit too lewd for some folks, but who cares when the results are this much fun?!?

No joke. Assuming you aren’t a priest or holy person, you should fucking watch it. It’s some really goddamn good TV. Also, cocks.

* - This guy is obviously aping Vadicta's style, but I'll let it slide since he's still fairly new in the community. It's a blog about Mario, guns, the internet, and innocence lost. A good read from start to finish.

M - LaTerry gives us his entry for this month's Bloggers Wanted, and it's all about Kingdom Hearts. Spoilers abound, so beware, but it's a good fucking blog all around!

S - SrChurros drops his latest entry in his Eternal Backlog series. For a second, I thought he was going to talk shit about Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, and I was going to have to ban him, but luckily, it was a false alarm. It's always inspiring to see folks tackling their backlogs head on, and maybe one day I'll finally start making a dent in my own collection. (Probably not though since the Nintendo Switch is intent on constantly releasing games I want! Those dirty bastards know what they're doing!)

S - Kerrik52 hits us with his thoughts on the game Matterfall. This dude is one of the best bloggers on the site, and his opinion means quite a great deal to me. I highly recommend checking this out if you've got any interest in the game!

E - It's time for COTW!!!!

T - Chris Bradshaw delivers this top notch blog about managing one's backlog of games. There's a few typos, but the intent behind the writing itself shines through wonderfully.

T - ViceProphet gives us some tips for what not to do in Fortnite!

T - The Baked Potato throws some words down talking about many different things. One of those things talks a bit of shit about Fallout: New Vegas, so he's alright in my book! I just wish he'd throw some pictures in there to break up the text!

F - What the fuck is this?

"Stay sexy y'all"

The heel-turn

Last week, in the quick posts of Destructoid's community, we saw the rise and fall of community manager Wesley J. Russow. He rose to prominence with his immutable power, only to see it come crashing down as the working class clambered beneath him and tore him down. Truly, the life and times of Westopher G. Raggamuffins was a lesson in live fast, burn hot, crash spectacularly.

Wes went from community darling to lovable despot over the course of a few days. It was a thing of beauty to behold. Truly, nothing is better to witness than a real-life heel turn. Wrestling is nothing without these terms after all. A "Face" is a good guy wrestler who fights the man, stands up for the little guy, and fights fairly while still winning. A "Heel", on the other hand, is a despicable, dastardly villain or even anti-hero. I loved Kurt Angle's antics as this gold medal Olympic winner turned wrestler who wasn't necessarily as likable as his gold medals imply. I loved hating that guy! A good heel is fun to hate, and there's nothing quite like the gasp of shock when watching the turn, when a face uses dirty tricks and turns into a heel.

Let me ask you this: is Kratos a hero? Before we see Kratos return in what I'd call Dad of War, let's not forget Kratos’ sordid past as a hero. In the first game, it was a revenge tale. It was a story of a mythical Spartan warrior who wanted revenge on the God of War who betrayed him. But as the series went on, it became a story about the lengths Kratos would go to justify his vendetta against people who wronged him. He would literally destroy the world just to destroy his enemies. Sure, we played as him, and we were taken on a ride, but would you really put your bet behind him and say, "Yeah, look at that hero!"

This month's Bloggers Wanted is about your favorite heel-turns or anti-heroes (in case a heel turn is too specific). Do you like it when Ryu turns into Evil Ryu? Or maybe you like Injustice, with its built in heel-turn Superman? I won't claim to understand the time line of Revolver Ocelot between Snake Eater and Guns of the Patriots, but I love that knucklehead.

To participate, just start a blog in our community section and title it "Heel-turn: [your blog title here]." Write to your heart's content, and if its up to snuff, you'll see your stuff published on the front page! Just remember, you're telling us about your favorite heel-turns and anti-heroes, not becoming one yourself, like Wes. Rest in spaghetti, never forghetti.
